Job Overview:
The Driver position is crucial for providing transportation services to the Zambia Country Office. The role involves ensuring the mechanical service of vehicles and maintaining insurance. The driver will be responsible for driving program vehicles as directed by the Support Services Manager, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for staff and visitors. The driver must adhere to traffic rules and road discipline while ensuring the safety of passengers and cargo. The position requires the driver to maintain the cleanliness and good order of the vehicle, perform routine inspections and maintenance, and keep track of maintenance records. The driver will also be responsible for delivering parcels and letters as needed, and performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Drive program vehicles as directed by the Support Services Manager, ensuring safe and efficient transportation for staff and visitors.
  • Ensure the safety of passengers, cargo, and vehicle while observing traffic rules and road discipline.
  • Drive long distances with or without program staff when required, adhering to all rules and regulations.
  • Maintain the vehicle in clean and good order, ensuring all documentation such as insurance and road license are up to date.
  • Perform routine vehicle inspections and maintenance, including checking oil, fuel, brakes, lights, windshield wipers, water levels, and tire pressures.
  • Report any damage or abnormal conditions of the vehicle promptly.
  • Keep track of maintenance records to ensure service schedules are adhered to and remind the employer when services are due.
  • Maintain records of work performed and fill out necessary forms, making timely reports of accidents, incidents, and unusual occurrences.
  • Take necessary steps as required by rules and regulations in case of an accident, reporting any defects or malfunctions that require immediate attention. 1
  • Check daily status and availability of spare parts, jacks, and tools, performing minor repairs to the vehicle as needed. 1
  • Change tires and refuel the vehicle as required, ensuring cleanliness at all times. 1
  • Ensure that ACF vehicles are used only for official/authorized business and report any unauthorized incidents to the supervisor. 1
  • Deliver parcels, letters, and other relevant items to offices and businesses as appropriate. 1
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced driving certificate.
  • Grade 12 School Certificate with a PASS grade.
  • Valid driver’s license class C and proof of good driving records.
  • Ability to communicate in basic English.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar position; previous experience working with an INGO will be an added advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimum supervision.
  • Trustworthy, with a high sense of responsibility, alertness, emotional stability, neatness, and courtesy.
  • Compatibility for both independent and team work, with active listening and good interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability. 1

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an Advanced Driving Certificate and a Grade 12 School Certificate with a PASS grade. A valid driver's license class C is also mandatory, along with proof of good driving records.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role. Previous experience working with an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO) is considered an added advantage, indicating familiarity with the operational standards and expectations in such environments.

Languages:
The mandatory language for this position is basic English, which is essential for communication within the organization and with stakeholders. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not explicitly required.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration for this position is 24 months. The role is full-time and requires regular attendance at least five days per week. The candidate must be available to work outside normal office hours or on weekends as required. Travel may be necessary for standard domestic and international business purposes.
