Job Overview: The position of Asistente de Movimiento y Control is crucial for the logistical operations of the UN Verification Mission in Colombia. The role involves providing reliable logistics services, ensuring timely and efficient transportation of personnel and cargo, and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders. The assistant will be responsible for planning and coordinating the movement of passengers and cargo, ensuring compliance with UN policies and procedures. This position requires adaptability and a customer service orientation, as the assistant will interact with various teams and clients to facilitate smooth operations. The role is based in the Control Unit at the UN headquarters in Bogotá, which oversees the planning and control of personnel and cargo movements in support of the mission's mandate.
Duties and Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the Movement and Control Team Leader in Bogotá, the Asistente de Movimiento y Control will perform the following duties:
Provide reliable logistics services by ensuring timely and efficient transportation of cargo and personnel.
Coordinate with local service providers for ground transportation contracts.
Manage the reception and planning of incoming and outgoing cargo to ensure quick dispatch and proper handling.
Maintain accurate records of all cargo movements.
Prepare necessary documentation for cargo dispatch and shipping.
Monitor and control shipments, ensuring proper delivery and receipt.
Plan, prioritize, and supervise passenger and cargo movements via air and land transport.
Determine the most effective and cost-efficient transport modes for passengers and cargo, including hazardous materials.
Coordinate the movement of personal effects for military observation personnel entering and leaving the country. 1
Provide general administrative support, including processing and drafting correspondence, maintaining records, scheduling meetings, and ensuring excellent customer service. 1
Perform other functions as necessary for the efficient operation of the office and organization.
Required Qualifications: The position requires a secondary education diploma (high school level) as a minimum. A university degree in Logistics or related fields is considered an asset but is not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate a strong understanding of logistics operations and possess the ability to manage transportation effectively. Knowledge of UN policies and procedures related to procurement and logistics is essential. Candidates should also have experience in customer service and administrative support.
Educational Background: A secondary education diploma is required for this position. A university degree in Logistics or a related field is preferred but not mandatory. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in logistics management and operational planning.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of 4 years of experience in logistics operations, including handling cargo transportation and passenger transport. Experience in at least two modes of transport and multimodal transport operations (air, land, river) is desirable. Additionally, experience in handling hazardous materials, such as corrosive substances and flammable liquids, is a plus. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of logistics planning and execution.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is required for this position, both oral and written. Knowledge of English is desirable and will be assessed during the application process. Proficiency in English is important as it is one of the working languages of the UN Secretariat.
Additional Notes: This position is offered under a Service Contract (SB3-2) with a duration starting from the signing date until December 31, 2025, subject to renewal based on performance and budget availability.
