Job Overview: The AFCIA Project Design and Engagement Consultant will play a crucial role in advancing resource mobilization efforts for the AFCIA Project Stage II. This position involves supporting the preparation of project proposals and creating specific pitches aimed at fundraising from donors and private sector actors interested in investing in the Adaptation Innovation Marketplace (AIM) multistakeholder platform. The consultant will also be responsible for developing a pipeline that connects potential AFCIA grantees with broader programming initiatives led by UNDP across various regional hubs. The consultant will report directly to the AFCIA Project Manager and will work under the guidance of the Regional Technical Specialist for Climate Finance and Investment. Collaboration with UNDP staff in regional hubs, headquarters, and various stakeholders is essential to enhance the integration of the AFCIA program with upcoming climate change adaptation projects in the Asia and Pacific region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the development of AFCIA II Project Proposals, ensuring alignment with UNDP’s strategic objectives.
Create tailored pitches for fundraising efforts targeting specific donors and private sector entities.
Support the identification and engagement of potential AFCIA grantees, linking them with UNDP’s regional programming efforts.
Collaborate with the AFCIA Project Manager and Regional Technical Specialist to ensure effective project implementation and resource mobilization.
Work closely with the Asia and Pacific Climate Change Adaptation team to foster synergies between AFCIA and other climate adaptation initiatives.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of resource mobilization strategies and adjust approaches as necessary.
Prepare reports and presentations to communicate project progress and fundraising outcomes to stakeholders.
Participate in meetings and workshops to represent the AFCIA project and its objectives.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience in project design and resource mobilization, particularly in the context of climate finance and adaptation initiatives.
Strong understanding of the UNDP’s mission and operational framework, especially in relation to climate change and sustainable development.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Educational Background: A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Climate Change, International Development, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in project management or climate finance would be an advantage.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in project design, resource mobilization, and climate finance is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the UN system, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Adaptation Innovation Marketplace and related initiatives will be considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly those relevant to the Asia and Pacific region, is considered a strong asset.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is from 15 March 2025 to 31 January 2026, with an estimated level of effort of 219 working days. There is a possibility of extension based on demand for services and performance.
