Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant- Climate Finance involves providing expert consultancy services to support climate finance initiatives within the UNDP framework. The consultant will be expected to engage in various activities related to climate finance, including but not limited to assessing climate finance needs, developing strategies for mobilizing resources, and providing technical assistance to stakeholders. The consultant will work closely with UNDP teams and partners to ensure that climate finance mechanisms are effectively implemented and aligned with national and international climate goals. The assignment is set for a period of 5 months, during which the consultant will be required to deliver high-quality outputs that contribute to the overall objectives of the UNDP's climate finance agenda. The role demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work in a dynamic environment, adapting to changing circumstances and stakeholder needs.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Consultant- Climate Finance include:
Conducting comprehensive assessments of climate finance needs and opportunities in the target regions.
Developing and proposing innovative strategies for mobilizing climate finance from various sources, including public, private, and international funding.
Providing technical assistance and capacity-building support to government agencies and other stakeholders involved in climate finance initiatives.
Collaborating with UNDP teams and partners to design and implement climate finance projects and programs.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of climate finance interventions and providing recommendations for improvement.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations on climate finance activities and outcomes for stakeholders.
Engaging in stakeholder consultations and workshops to promote awareness and understanding of climate finance issues.
Staying updated on global trends and best practices in climate finance to inform UNDP's strategies and initiatives.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Individual Consultant- Climate Finance position include:
Proven experience in developing and implementing climate finance strategies and projects.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable recommendations.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with international climate agreements and financing mechanisms, such as the Paris Agreement and Green Climate Fund.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a Master's degree in environmental science, climate change, finance, economics, or a related field. A Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree is preferred and may be an advantage in the selection process.
Experience: The level of experience needed for the Individual Consultant- Climate Finance position is at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in climate finance, environmental policy, or sustainable development. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs on climate finance projects is highly desirable. Demonstrated success in mobilizing resources and managing projects in the climate finance sector will be considered a significant asset.
Languages: The mandatory language requirement for this position is proficiency in English, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions of focus, is considered a good to have and may enhance the candidate's profile.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a contract for a duration of 5 months.
