Job Overview:
The National Consultant will be responsible for developing a comprehensive framework for collaborative management partnerships specifically tailored for Egypt’s protected areas. This role involves extensive research, stakeholder engagement, and the formulation of strategies that promote sustainable management practices. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including government agencies, local communities, and non-governmental organizations, to ensure that the framework is inclusive and effective. The assignment is expected to last for five months, during which the consultant will conduct assessments, facilitate workshops, and draft the framework document. The consultant will also be expected to provide recommendations for implementation and monitoring of the framework, ensuring that it aligns with national and international conservation goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a thorough analysis of existing management practices in Egypt’s protected areas.
  • Engage with stakeholders to gather insights and perspectives on collaborative management.
  • Develop a draft framework for collaborative management partnerships, incorporating best practices and lessons learned from other regions.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings with stakeholders to refine the framework and gather feedback.
  • Prepare a final report detailing the framework, including implementation strategies and monitoring mechanisms.
  • Provide ongoing support and consultation to stakeholders during the implementation phase.
  • Ensure that the framework aligns with UNDP’s strategic objectives and national conservation policies.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in environmental management, conservation, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of collaborative management principles and practices.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with diverse stakeholders and facilitate discussions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with the context of Egypt’s protected areas and relevant legislation is an advantage.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, or a related field is required. A PhD in a relevant discipline would be an asset, particularly for candidates with extensive research experience.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in environmental management, conservation, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs in similar roles is highly desirable. Previous experience in developing frameworks or strategies for collaborative management is a significant advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultant's engagement efforts.

Additional Notes:
The position is for a fixed-term contract lasting five months, with a total of seventy working days. The consultant will work remotely but may be required to travel within Egypt for stakeholder meetings and workshops. The compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the consultant will be responsible for their own taxes and insurance.
