Job Overview:
The Digital Peacebuilding and Advocacy Consultant will play a crucial role in advancing digital peacebuilding initiatives within the context of UNDP's mission in Kenya. This position involves leveraging digital tools and platforms to promote peace, enhance advocacy efforts, and engage stakeholders in meaningful dialogue. The consultant will be expected to develop strategies that integrate digital technologies into peacebuilding processes, ensuring that these initiatives are inclusive and accessible to diverse communities. The role requires a deep understanding of the intersection between technology and peace, as well as the ability to navigate complex social dynamics. The consultant will also be responsible for conducting research, analyzing data, and providing recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of digital peacebuilding efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement digital peacebuilding strategies that align with UNDP's objectives in Kenya.
  • Conduct assessments to identify opportunities for leveraging digital tools in peacebuilding initiatives.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build capacity among stakeholders in using digital platforms for advocacy and peace promotion.
  • Collaborate with local communities, government agencies, and civil society organizations to foster partnerships and enhance collective impact.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of digital peacebuilding initiatives, providing regular reports and recommendations for improvement.
  • Stay updated on emerging trends in digital technology and peacebuilding, integrating best practices into project implementation.
  • Engage in advocacy efforts to raise awareness about the importance of digital peacebuilding and its potential to address conflicts.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in digital peacebuilding, conflict resolution, or related fields.
  • Strong understanding of the role of technology in promoting peace and social cohesion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in project management and strategic planning.
  • Familiarity with UNDP's mission and values, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in Peace Studies, International Relations, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Additional certifications in digital technologies or conflict resolution will be an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in digital peacebuilding, advocacy, or related areas is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is highly desirable. Proven track record of successfully implementing projects that leverage digital tools for peacebuilding is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Kenya is an asset and will enhance communication with local communities.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a six-month contract, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. The consultant will work on a full-time basis, with flexibility in working hours to accommodate different stakeholders. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's policies. The recruitment process is open to both national and international candidates.
