The Talent Acquisition and People Programmes (TAPP) unit, composed of 20 staff members, is responsible for HR service delivery and talent acquisition strategies within UNDP.
Job Overview: The Communication and Social Media Intern will play a crucial role in managing UNDP's Careers Social Media platforms, which include Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram. The intern will assist in the daily operations of these platforms, responding to queries and engaging with the audience. The position requires collaboration in planning content strategies and identifying testimonials from UNDP staff to showcase on social media. The intern will also be responsible for collecting data and analyzing the impact of the content strategy based on key performance indicators (KPIs). This internship provides an opportunity to learn about UNDP's structure, policies, and practices while enhancing effective writing and visual communication skills. Interns will have access to training opportunities and networking with colleagues across various UN agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Communication and Social Media Intern include: 1) Daily management of UNDP Careers Social Media platforms, including posting content and responding to audience queries. 2) Collaborating in the planning and execution of content strategies for social media outlets. 3) Identifying and creating engaging stories from UNDP staff testimonials for social media. 4) Collecting and analyzing data to assess the effectiveness of social media strategies based on KPIs. 5) Supporting reporting efforts to external partners regarding communication results. 6) Conducting research on best practices related to ongoing projects. 7) Assisting with any ad hoc activities related to the TAPP unit's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements: 1) Currently in the final year of a bachelor’s degree; 2) Currently enrolled in a master’s degree; or 3) Have graduated no longer than one year ago from a master’s degree or equivalent studies. The preferred fields of study include Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, Political Science, or related fields. Prior experience in social media management is considered an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel and Word, is required, along with a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Premiere Pro.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes being in the final year of a bachelor’s degree, currently enrolled in a master’s degree program, or having graduated within the last year from a relevant master’s degree or equivalent studies. The fields of study should ideally be related to Communications, Digital Media, Journalism, Political Science, or similar disciplines.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in social media management, which can be gained through internships, academic projects, or previous employment. While specific years of experience are not mandated, familiarity with social media platforms and content creation is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, a good working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to engage with a diverse audience and contribute to UNDP's global mission.
Additional Notes: The internship is expected to start on April 1st, 2025, with flexibility for the selected candidate to participate in remote or in-house training prior to the start date. Interns are expected to work full-time, although flexibility is allowed for educational commitments. Interns will accrue 1.5 days of leave per month, which includes provisions for sick leave and annual leave, in addition to official UN holidays. It is important to note that UNDP does not cover costs related to accidents, illness, or death incurred during the internship, and interns must arrange their own visas and travel. Interns are not eligible for employment with UNDP during the internship period.
