Job Overview:
This position involves consulting to evaluate the environmental impact on biodiversity and ecosystems related to the hydrocarbon sector in Colombia. The consultancy is part of the Biodiversity Financing Initiative (BIOFIN), which aims to assess and enhance the financial mechanisms for biodiversity conservation. The consultant will be expected to analyze and evaluate environmental impacts, biodiversity variables, and hydrocarbon projects, contributing to informed decision-making and policy development in the sector. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of environmental science and the ability to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough analyses of environmental impacts associated with the hydrocarbon sector, focusing on biodiversity and ecosystem health.
  • Evaluate and analyze biodiversity variables at different scales to understand their implications for environmental sustainability.
  • Assess specific hydrocarbon projects to determine their environmental compliance and potential impacts on biodiversity.
  • Prepare detailed reports summarizing findings, methodologies, and recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to gather data and insights.
  • Provide expert advice on best practices for minimizing environmental impacts in the hydrocarbon sector.
  • Participate in workshops and meetings to present findings and engage with stakeholders on biodiversity conservation strategies.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a professional degree in environmental sciences, engineering sciences, or natural sciences. Additionally, they should have a strong background in environmental assessment and biodiversity analysis. The qualifications should demonstrate a solid understanding of ecological principles and environmental regulations relevant to the hydrocarbon sector.

Educational Background:
A professional degree in environmental sciences, engineering sciences, or natural sciences is required for this position. The educational background should include coursework and training related to environmental impact assessments, biodiversity conservation, and ecological studies.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least three (3) years of relevant experience in the following areas:
  • Conducting environmental impact analyses in productive sectors, particularly in relation to biodiversity.
  • Analyzing biodiversity variables at various scales, demonstrating an understanding of ecological dynamics.
  • Evaluating hydrocarbon sector projects, ensuring compliance with environmental standards and assessing potential impacts on biodiversity.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as all communications and reports will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly English, as it may facilitate communication with international stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
