Job Overview:
The GIS Specialist Services position involves providing expert services to conduct a national post-war assessment of the impact of conflict on natural landscapes in Lebanon. This role requires the application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing technologies to analyze and interpret data related to environmental changes resulting from the conflict. The assignment is expected to last for 14 working days, spread over a period of three weeks, concluding no later than March 30, 202
  • The specialist will be responsible for delivering high-quality assessments that will inform future recovery and rehabilitation efforts in the affected areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of the natural landscapes in Lebanon affected by the conflict using GIS and Remote Sensing tools.
  • Collect and process spatial data relevant to the assessment, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders and experts to gather additional information and insights.
  • Prepare detailed reports and visualizations that effectively communicate findings to UNDP and other stakeholders.
  • Provide recommendations based on the assessment to support recovery initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with UNDP's standards and guidelines throughout the assessment process.
  • Participate in meetings and discussions to present findings and gather feedback.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in GIS and Remote Sensing, with a strong portfolio of previous work.
  • Familiarity with the socio-political context of Lebanon and the impacts of conflict on natural resources.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey findings to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Geospatial Science, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset.

Experience:
At least 5 years of professional experience in GIS and Remote Sensing, with a focus on environmental assessments or similar projects. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage and will be considered a plus.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration is for a short-term assignment of 14 working days. The work is expected to be conducted remotely, with potential field visits as necessary. Compensation will be based on the contractor's qualifications and experience, in accordance with UNDP's policies.
