Job Overview:
The position of International Project Development Specialist (GEF PPG Team Leader) involves leading the project preparation process for the Global Environment Facility (GEF) project. The specialist will be responsible for coordinating the development of project proposals, ensuring alignment with GEF guidelines, and facilitating stakeholder engagement. The role requires a deep understanding of environmental issues and project management, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities.   • The specialist will also be tasked with preparing comprehensive reports and documentation to support the project development process.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the preparation of project proposals for GEF funding, ensuring compliance with GEF requirements and standards.
  • Conduct stakeholder consultations to gather input and feedback on project design and implementation strategies.
  • Collaborate with national and local authorities, NGOs, and other stakeholders to ensure project alignment with national priorities and strategies.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary documentation and reports to UNDP and GEF, including project concept notes and full project documents.
  • Facilitate workshops and meetings to discuss project objectives, strategies, and implementation plans.
  • Monitor and evaluate project development progress, making adjustments as necessary to meet deadlines and objectives.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders throughout the project development process.
  • Ensure effective communication and dissemination of project information to all relevant parties.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in environmental science, project management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in project development and management, particularly in the context of GEF projects.
  • Strong understanding of environmental issues and sustainable development practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree (Master's or equivalent) in environmental science, project management, or a related field. A PhD or equivalent in a relevant discipline is preferred but not mandatory. Relevant certifications in project management or environmental studies will be considered an asset.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in project development and management, particularly in the context of international development and environmental projects. Experience working with GEF or similar funding mechanisms is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully leading project development processes and engaging with stakeholders at various levels.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's profile.
