Job Overview: The position involves providing consultancy services to identify barriers and obstacles to accessing diverse financial instruments and incentives that facilitate the transition to sustainable agricultural practices. The consultant will work on reducing the damage caused by agrochemicals in priority crops and will propose solutions or interventions to overcome these barriers and increase financing in this area. The estimated duration of the consultancy is five months, starting in February 2025 and concluding in June 202
The consultant will assist the national consulting team in establishing a baseline, conducting research, and developing proposals for financing opportunities related to the preparation phase of the FARM+ project in Mexico. The consultant will report to the National Environment, Energy, and Resilience Officer and will need to be available for immediate travel to various locations in Mexico as required by the consultancy activities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Identify and analyze barriers to accessing financial instruments for sustainable agricultural practices.
Conduct research on existing financial incentives and opportunities for sustainable agriculture in Mexico.
Develop proposals and recommendations for overcoming identified barriers to financing.
Collaborate with the national consulting team to establish a baseline for the project.
Provide technical assistance and support to the national team in the development of financing strategies.
Prepare reports and documentation related to the consultancy findings and recommendations.
Participate in meetings and consultations with stakeholders to discuss financing opportunities and challenges.
Ensure timely delivery of consultancy outputs and adherence to project timelines.
Be available for travel to various locations in Mexico as required, with short notice.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
Proven experience in agricultural financing, sustainable agriculture, or related fields.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to identify barriers to financing.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders.
Experience in conducting research and developing proposals for financing opportunities.
Knowledge of the agricultural sector in Mexico and relevant financial instruments.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Familiarity with UNDP policies and procedures is an advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes:
A master's degree in agricultural economics, environmental science, finance, or a related field.
Additional certifications or training in sustainable agriculture or financing will be considered an asset.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position includes:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in agricultural financing or sustainable development.
Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is preferred.
Demonstrated experience in conducting research and providing consultancy services.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is Spanish, as the consultancy will be conducted in Mexico. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be required for reporting and communication with international stakeholders.
