Job Overview:
The Consultant for Environmental Health Portfolio will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF's mission to improve health outcomes for children by developing a portfolio of products related to environmental health. This position involves conducting market analyses, engaging with stakeholders, and ensuring the availability of appropriate products and guidance for UNICEF's programming. The consultant will work closely with the Innovation Manager and various teams within UNICEF to identify product needs, drive demand for new products, and support procurement processes. The role requires a strong understanding of environmental health issues and the ability to manage complex projects effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct a landscape/market analysis of devices for detecting environmental pollutants, engaging stakeholders and manufacturers to understand current products and services.
  • Develop a prioritized menu of key products for inclusion in the UNICEF Supply Catalogue, collaborating with program groups and stakeholders.
  • Support procurement processes by developing specifications for selected products, preparing solicitation documents, and evaluating bids.
  • Create a demand generation plan for new products, identifying programmatically ready countries and engaging partners and donors.
  • Implement the demand generation plan through country visits, stakeholder engagement, and communication products.
  • Identify products requiring improvement or innovation, developing a prioritization framework for immediate attention.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field. An advanced degree (Master's or higher) in relevant disciplines is highly desirable. A minimum of 3 years of experience in managing technical projects, particularly in environmental health, is required. Proven experience in procurement processes, vendor selection, and contract negotiation is essential. Candidates should demonstrate extensive knowledge of environmental regulations, particularly regarding heavy metal contamination, and possess strong analytical, writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Educational Background:
The position requires a bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field. An advanced university degree (Master's or higher) in Environmental Science, Engineering, Project Management, or other relevant disciplines is highly desirable, indicating a strong academic foundation in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 3 years of experience managing technical projects, with a proven track record in managing complex projects related to environmental health. Experience in procurement processes, vendor selection, and contract negotiation is also necessary, showcasing the candidate's ability to navigate the complexities of product acquisition and management.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in diverse environments.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy is deliverable-based, spanning 270 days over 14 months, with a requirement for a minimum of 60% on-site presence in Copenhagen and a maximum of 40% home-based work.
