Job Overview: The SBC Specialist will work under the guidance of the Polio SBC Manager and collaborate closely with the national Polio Team. The role involves being part of the National emergency-operation" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) and deploying to polio outbreak states as part of the Management Support Team (MST). The incumbent will be responsible for designing, managing, executing, monitoring, and evaluating behavior change and social mobilization activities in support of the National Polio Emergency Action Plan (NEAP). This includes a focus on social behavior change (SBC), advocacy, communication, and mobilization for polio eradication and immunization services. The position requires a proactive approach to developing strategies and activities that address the needs of the most disadvantaged children and families, ensuring that all children have equitable access to health services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the design and development of the Polio outbreak response SBC strategy, including assessing qualitative and quantitative information, participating in planning, and preparing educational materials.
Develop work plans and budgets for implementing SBC strategies at the country level, ensuring collaboration across health sections.
Lead the design of SBC intervention packages and support voluntary community mobilizers (VCMs) in campaign activities.
Ensure timely implementation and fund disbursement of SBC activities at national and sub-national levels.
Collaborate with GPEI partners to design SBC strategies for polio outbreak responses.
Oversee the production and implementation of multi-media initiatives and ensure compliance with targets.
Identify and maintain partnerships through networking and collaboration with strategic partners.
Develop communication strategies for polio and immunization programs, including crisis communication and misinformation management.
Engage in advocacy and resource mobilization initiatives related to immunization and health interventions.
Required Qualifications: The position requires an advanced university degree in Social and Behavioral Change Communication, Public Health, or related fields, with a focus on participatory communication and social mobilization. A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible work experience in public or community health and SBC is essential. Candidates should have knowledge of communication theory, motivational psychology, and experience in emergency operations and management. Strong management skills and the ability to organize and implement training are also required. Computer skills and fluency in English are mandatory, while knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Social and Behavioral Change Communication, Public Health, or other relevant social/behavioral sciences. The educational background should emphasize participatory communication, communication planning, and social mobilization, with a focus on community health areas such as health promotion, sociology, anthropology, psychology, and health education.
Experience: The role requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible work experience in public or community health and Social and Behavioral Change Communication. Experience in planning and managing social communication programs, particularly in immunization and polio, is crucial. Familiarity with emergency operations and management is also highly valued, along with a background in public health and strong management skills.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position. Knowledge of another official UN language is considered an asset, enhancing communication capabilities within diverse teams and with various stakeholders.
