Job Posting Organization:
The position is located in the Office of Coordination and Shared Services (ODCSS), which serves the Departments of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs (DPPA) and Peace Operations (DPO). The ODCSS is dedicated to enhancing the effectiveness of UN Peacekeeping operations through initiatives that promote gender parity, diversity, and inclusion. Job Overview:
The Programme Officer will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Pilot Network for Uniformed Women Peacekeepers. This position requires active engagement with mission counterparts and stakeholders to ensure the effective operation of the network. The officer will be responsible for coordinating program/project development, analyzing implementation processes, and identifying issues that may arise. The role also involves assisting in the creation and review of technical solutions for the network, including the management of an online platform and database for network members. The Programme Officer will support various network activities, including online events and webinars, and will be tasked with monitoring and reviewing the network's progress through lessons learned exercises. Additionally, the officer will conduct research, prepare reports, and provide support for meetings and conferences related to the network's objectives. This position is integral to advancing the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy and ensuring that the needs of uniformed women are addressed within UN Peacekeeping operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Participating in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Pilot Network for Uniformed Women Peacekeepers.
  • Liaising with mission counterparts and stakeholders to coordinate program/project development and implementation.
  • Analyzing relevant documents and reports to identify problems and propose corrective actions.
  • Assisting in the development and review of technical solutions for the network, including ongoing liaison with service providers.
  • Supporting the organization and implementation of network activities such as online events and webinars.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the Pilot Network, including conducting surveys and analyzing responses.
  • Researching and presenting information from diverse sources as required.
  • Preparing written reports, background papers, and inputs for publications.
  • Providing substantive support for consultative meetings and conferences. 1
  • Assisting with budget and funding activities, including preparing related documents and reports. 1
  • Supporting the implementation of the Uniformed Gender Parity Strategy and performing other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong understanding of theories and concepts related to peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, gender equality, and UN Peace Operations. They should demonstrate the ability to identify and analyze issues, conduct independent research, and manage conflicting priorities. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of professionalism, teamwork, and effective planning and organizing skills. They should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and stakeholders to achieve organizational goals and demonstrate a commitment to gender perspectives in their work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, economics, security, or a related field is required. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration, political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, conflict resolution, or a related area is required. Candidates must have experience working with uniformed personnel and on uniformed gender parity issues. Experience in developing and implementing online platforms for networks or communities of practice, as well as organizing large-scale online events, is desirable. Familiarity with peacekeeping operations and special political missions is also an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in both oral and written English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable, and knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered an advantage.

This position is temporarily available for 364 days. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment. The position may be limited to candidates based at the duty station, and it may be restricted to internal candidates who have been recruited through a competitive examination.
