Job Overview: The Nutrition Specialist position is crucial in supporting UNICEF's emergency nutrition response activities in Gaza, particularly in light of the ongoing crisis that began in October 202
The role involves immediate and effective design of interventions, monitoring evolving needs, ensuring quality interventions, and liaising with partners. The specialist will contribute to emergency nutrition analysis, define UNICEF's nutrition response plan, assist in forecasting supply needs, and provide technical guidance on nutrition emergencies. The position requires active engagement with the Nutrition Cluster and oversight of emergency nutrition supply chains, ensuring timely inputs to UNICEF information products and contributing to funding appeals and donor reports.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute to UNICEF’s emergency nutrition analysis to define overall needs and identify gaps to guide response efforts.
Coordinate with partners to define and update the nutrition response plan, including contingency plans.
Assist in forecasting supply needs and managing distribution processes.
Provide technical guidance on public health and disease threats related to nutrition emergencies.
Engage with the Nutrition Cluster for assessments and monitoring of the nutrition situation.
Develop project documents with partners and oversee nutrition programming, including budget monitoring and donor reporting.
Plan and participate in field monitoring missions and track action points.
Oversee emergency nutrition supply chain management and ensure a responsive release strategy. 1
Contribute to the development of funding appeals and project proposals related to nutrition emergencies.
Required Qualifications:
An advanced university degree in nutrition, public health, nutritional epidemiology, global/international health and nutrition, health/nutrition research, policy and/or management, health sciences, or another health-related science field.
A minimum of five years of professional experience in nutrition, public health, or maternal, infant, and child health/nutrition care in a developing country.
Experience in health/nutrition program/project development and management in a UN system agency is an asset.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as nutrition, public health, or health sciences. The educational qualifications must be obtained from accredited institutions recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The position requires at least five years of professional experience in nutrition or public health, particularly in developing countries. Experience in program/project development and management within a UN agency is considered advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish) or a local language is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Gaza, where medical facilities may be limited. Candidates must be prepared for the challenges of working in an emergency context.
