Job Overview:
The National Programme Operations Specialist position is located in the FAO Country Office in Nepal. The role involves providing programmatic and operational support to the FAO country programme/office in Nepal. The specialist will be responsible for coordinating, formulating, and implementing FAO country programmes/projects, which include technical capacity building, policy development, enhancing agricultural production, and promoting agri-business entrepreneurship. The position also entails fostering digital agricultural innovation, improving food and nutrition security, and enhancing resilience to disasters and climate change impacts. The specialist will work under the direct supervision of the FAO Representative in Nepal and will engage with various stakeholders, including government ministries, donors, and implementing partners, to ensure the successful execution of projects and initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The National Programme Operations Specialist will carry out a variety of tasks, including: supporting the coordination and implementation of FAO country programmes/projects; assisting in operational responsibilities in line with project agreements and FAO guidelines; preparing progress reports, financial statements, and budget revisions; organizing project-related events and trainings; facilitating project monitoring and supervision missions; participating in relevant meetings and workshops; preparing concept notes and project documents; collecting and maintaining data on food, crops, livestock, and fisheries; liaising with government ministries and partners; and performing other programmatic tasks as needed for the FAO office in Nepal.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Agricultural and Rural Development, Food Security and Nutrition, Climate Change, Natural Resources Management, or International Development. A Master’s degree is considered an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in supporting the formulation and implementation of development and emergency projects in the relevant sectors. Working knowledge of English and Nepali languages is required, and candidates must be nationals of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in relevant fields such as Agricultural and Rural Development, Food Security and Nutrition, Climate Change, Natural Resources Management, or International Development. A Master’s degree in these areas is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in supporting the formulation and implementation of development and emergency projects. This experience should be in the relevant fields/sectors mentioned in the qualifications, demonstrating a solid understanding of program/project management and operational responsibilities.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are English and Nepali. Candidates must have a working knowledge of both languages to effectively communicate and collaborate with stakeholders in Nepal and the FAO office.
