Job Overview:
This consultancy position involves providing expert analysis on gender, stakeholder engagement, and social and environmental risk assessments related to projects aimed at reducing the use of agrochemicals in Mexico's agricultural sector. The consultant will be responsible for developing mandatory project annexes that address gender issues, indigenous peoples, and stakeholder participation. This role is crucial for ensuring that the project aligns with the specific requirements of the UNDP's Social and Environmental Standards (SES) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The estimated duration of the consultancy is five months, starting in February 2025 and concluding in June 202
  • The consultant will work remotely but must be available for immediate engagement and potential field missions within Mexico.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct gender analysis to identify the specific needs and roles of different genders in the agricultural sector concerning agrochemical use.
  • Perform stakeholder analysis to map out key actors involved in the agricultural sector and their influence on agrochemical usage.
  • Assess social and environmental risks associated with agrochemical use and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Develop mandatory project annexes that comply with UNDP's SES and GEF requirements, focusing on gender, indigenous peoples, and stakeholder participation.
  • Collaborate with the National Environment, Energy, and Resilience Officer to ensure project alignment with UNDP standards.
  • Provide recommendations for project design that incorporates gender-sensitive approaches and sustainable practices.
  • Prepare and submit reports detailing findings and recommendations to the project team.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven expertise in gender analysis and social safeguards, particularly in the context of agricultural projects.
  • Strong understanding of the agricultural sector in Mexico and the implications of agrochemical use.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and participatory approaches.
  • Familiarity with UNDP's Social and Environmental Standards and the Global Environment Facility's requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.

Educational Background:
A master's degree in gender studies, social sciences, environmental studies, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in gender analysis and social safeguards will be considered an asset.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in gender analysis, social safeguards, and project design in the agricultural sector is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP projects, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the consultancy will be conducted in Mexico. Proficiency in English is an asset, as it may be required for reporting and communication with international stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is part-time, with a flexible schedule, but the consultant must be available for immediate engagement. Payment will be made in four installments upon delivery and acceptance of the required products. There are no travel requirements for this position, as it is remote.
