Job Overview:
The Climate Change Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the FAO Country Office in Nepal by leading the design, planning, implementation, and monitoring of projects focused on climate change adaptation. This position requires close collaboration with the Programme team to deliver country-level programs and interventions aimed at building resilience among ecosystems and vulnerable communities affected by climate change. The specialist will coordinate ongoing projects and contribute to the formulation of new project proposals, ensuring alignment with the FAO Nepal’s Country Programme Framework (CPF) for 2023-202
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Climate Change Specialist will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including supporting policy processes related to climate change, disaster risk reduction, and sustainable natural resource management. The specialist will coordinate and implement ongoing climate change projects funded by GEF, GCF, and FAO’s Technical Cooperation Programme. Additionally, the role involves formulating new project proposals, mainstreaming gender in projects, organizing policy dialogues and workshops, and preparing plans for project reviews and field monitoring. The specialist will also contribute to written outputs on climate change topics, provide technical inputs for communication products, and act as the country focal point for climate change, disaster risk reduction, and natural resource management. Furthermore, the specialist will assist in mobilizing extra-budgetary resources to support the implementation of relevant priorities of the CPF and FAO’s pipeline projects.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, or related fields. A minimum of 5 years of proven working experience in climate change and natural resource management projects is required, preferably with relevant government agencies or non-profit organizations. Candidates must also have a working knowledge of English and be nationals of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal. FAO core competencies include results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing. Technical skills in climate change policies and programs are essential, along with experience working with UN agencies and other stakeholders.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Climate Change, Disaster Risk Reduction, Natural Resource Management, or Agriculture is required for this position. The educational qualifications must be obtained from an institution accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in climate change and natural resource management projects. Experience working with UN agencies, I/NGOs, and government ministries in Nepal is highly desirable. The ability to manage and work with multidisciplinary and multicultural teams is essential, along with a strong work ethic and organizational skills.

Languages:
A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.
