Job Overview: The Information Systems Officer position is crucial for managing projects related to the feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development, and implementation of moderately complex systems. The incumbent will be responsible for developing detailed system specifications and user documentation, providing specialized advice to users, and maintaining existing user systems. The role requires troubleshooting, user support, and the development of training materials. The officer will also be involved in disaster recovery planning, researching new technologies, and facilitating communication within the division and with other entities. This position demands a proactive approach to developing strategic business relationships and supporting policy guidance and ICT strategy development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Information Systems Officer will manage projects involving feasibility studies and systems analysis, develop detailed specifications and user documentation, provide specialized advice to users, maintain and enhance existing systems, troubleshoot issues, develop training materials, and ensure data security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The officer will also organize testing, assist in acceptance testing, develop disaster recovery plans, research new technologies, write reports on ICT topics, coordinate meetings, handle administrative processes, and provide guidance to junior staff and consultants. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong knowledge of information technology and information management, particularly in systems analysis, database design, and programming. The role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, the ability to maintain assigned systems, and innovative approaches to resolving issues. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in computer science, information systems, mathematics, statistics, or related fields is required. Alternatively, a first-level or advanced degree in any field with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree in the specified fields.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in information governance, planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of computer information systems or related areas is required. Experience in ICT administrative and programming processes within an international organization is also necessary, along with experience in ICT governance and policy development. Candidates should have experience coordinating high-level meetings or conferences and providing IT support to senior officials, which is desirable.
Languages: Fluency in both English and French is required for this position, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is considered desirable, enhancing the candidate's profile for the role.
