Job Overview: The position of Consultant for the Green Jobs for Youth Pact involves providing technical support to projects in Senegal and Madagascar aimed at enhancing youth employment in high-impact sectors. The consultant will work closely with the 10YFP team and members of the Pact from three UN agencies: UNEP, ILO, and UNICEF. The role includes organizing coordination meetings, capacity-building workshops, and multi-stakeholder roundtables to empower youth through green jobs and promote climate action. The consultant will also assist in strengthening inter-ministerial coordination and cooperation among stakeholders to design and implement effective green youth employment policies. This position is crucial for closing the skills gap in developing countries and fostering systemic change that benefits people, the planet, and prosperity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Organize at least 6 monthly coordination meetings between UNEP, ILO, and UNICEF country teams in Madagascar and Senegal.
Support the organization and convening of capacity-building technical workshops for policymakers in Madagascar and Senegal to enhance their capacities on youth employment in high-impact sectors through the transform training module.
Coordinate inter-ministerial, inter-generational, and multi-stakeholder roundtables in Madagascar and Senegal, including young people, to discuss green jobs for youth and accelerate climate action and circularity.
Conduct any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor, ensuring that all activities align with the objectives of the Green Jobs for Youth Pact and contribute to the overall mission of UNEP.
A first-level university degree with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
A minimum of five years' experience in drafting proposals, technical reports, and managing the regional delivery of complex projects is required.
Proven experience working on green economy projects at both national and regional levels is essential.
Experience working with the UN system is also required, demonstrating an understanding of UN operations and protocols.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in a relevant field such as economics, monitoring and evaluation, or development. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of green economy initiatives and youth employment policies.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience, particularly in drafting proposals and technical reports, as well as managing complex projects at a regional level. Candidates should have a strong background in green economy projects, showcasing their ability to navigate the challenges and opportunities within this sector. Experience working with the UN system is also essential, as it indicates familiarity with international standards and practices.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the two working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
