Job Overview:
The position of Senior Consultant for the Global Cooling Stocktake Report involves supporting the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) in finalizing a critical report that assesses global cooling solutions and their impact on greenhouse gas emissions. The consultant will engage in data compilation and verification, develop GHG emissions mitigation pathways, and analyze various cooling scenarios. This role is essential for ensuring that the report meets its objectives and is prepared for its release ahead of COP30 in Brazil. The consultant will also contribute to the Annual Global Cooling Pledge Progress Report for 2025, which will highlight the progress made by countries in adopting sustainable cooling solutions. The consultant will work remotely and is expected to collaborate with a diverse range of stakeholders, including government representatives, industry experts, and civil society organizations, to facilitate knowledge exchange and advocacy for climate-friendly cooling solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Consultant will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
  • Compiling and verifying data related to GHG emissions and cooling solutions.
  • Developing and describing various cooling GHG emissions mitigation pathways scenarios for different time intervals, including counterfactual and business-as-usual scenarios until 2030 and 204
  • Conducting a detailed analysis of passive cooling scenarios and their impacts, emphasizing data details on sustainable cooling solutions.
  • Preparing annexures of the various modeling pathways and updating the modeling chapters and key messages based on peer review feedback.
  • Supporting the peer review process of the modeling chapter and integrating comments for finalization.
  • Estimating modeling impacts specifically for Pledge signatory countries and contributing to the authorship of the Annual Pledge Progress Report for 202
  • Finalizing the 2024 Annual Pledge Progress Report by verifying data and analysis based on country responses and feedback.
  • Engaging with international stakeholders and industry players to ensure alignment and coordination in the cooling sector.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires several qualifications, including:
  • An advanced university degree in environmental science or engineering.
  • At least 15 years of professional experience related to refrigeration, air conditioning, and cooling solutions.
  • Prior experience working with international stakeholder groups and industry players in the HVAC industry.
  • A strong technical understanding of cooling products and their environmental and energy impacts, along with knowledge of product development and innovation aimed at reducing environmental impacts.
  • Experience in stakeholder coordination and project management, as well as familiarity with policy, technical, and regulatory aspects of sustainable cooling.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in environmental science or engineering. In cases where candidates have extensive professional experience, this may be accepted in lieu of a formal diploma. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in environmental principles and practices, particularly as they relate to cooling technologies and their impacts on climate change.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 15 years of professional experience in the field of refrigeration, air conditioning, and related cooling solutions. Languages:

The consultant should also have proven experience and skills in policy and/or technical report writing, as well as energy modeling, which are essential for effectively communicating findings and recommendations in the reports being developed.
