Job Overview:
The position of Senior Consultant for the Global Cooling Stocktake Report is crucial for supporting UNEP's mission to accelerate the global transition to energy-efficient and climate-friendly cooling solutions. The consultant will play a key role in finalizing the modelling chapter of the report, which involves extensive data analysis, scenario development, and verification of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions mitigation pathways. The consultant will also contribute to the Annual Global Cooling Pledge Progress Report, ensuring that the data and analysis reflect the latest developments in the cooling sector. This role requires a deep understanding of cooling technologies, environmental impacts, and the ability to coordinate with various stakeholders to achieve the project's objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Consultant will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Conducting country and global level GHG emission modelling analysis related to cooling solutions.
  • Developing and finalizing various cooling scenarios, including counterfactual and business-as-usual (BAU) scenarios until 2030 and 204
  • Performing detailed data analysis and verification to ensure the accuracy of the modelling pathways.
  • Updating the text of the modelling chapter and drafting recommendations based on the analysis.
  • Supporting the delivery of the Annual Global Cooling Pledge Progress Report for 2025, including data collection measures and analysis verification.
  • Finalizing the 2024 Annual Pledge Progress Report by verifying data and analysis based on feedback from country responses.
  • Collaborating with international stakeholders, including government entities, businesses, and civil society groups, to facilitate knowledge exchange and advocacy for sustainable cooling solutions.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess the following qualifications:
  • An advanced university degree in environmental science or engineering.
  • A minimum of 15 years of professional experience in refrigeration, air conditioning, and related cooling solutions.
  • Proven experience working with international stakeholder groups and industry players in the HVAC sector.
  • A strong technical understanding of cooling products and their environmental and energy impacts.
  • Experience in stakeholder coordination and project management.
  • Familiarity with policy, technical, and regulatory aspects of sustainable cooling and global market trends in the cooling sector.
  • Proficiency in energy modelling to assess the emissions impact of the cooling sector.

Educational Background:
Candidates must have an advanced university degree in environmental science or engineering. However, significant professional experience may be accepted in lieu of a formal diploma, indicating that practical experience in the field is highly valued alongside academic qualifications.

Experience:
The position requires at least 15 years of professional experience specifically related to refrigeration, air conditioning, and cooling solutions. This extensive experience should include working with international stakeholders and industry players, demonstrating a deep understanding of the technical and regulatory aspects of sustainable cooling.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. The consultant should also have proven experience and skills in policy and/or technical report writing, as well as energy modelling, which are essential for the successful completion of the report and related tasks.
