Job Overview: The Online Volunteer role is crucial for enhancing the online presence of the Immigration and Border Governance Division (IBG) and fostering engagement with the audience. The volunteer will contribute to the broader social media strategy by developing and sharing content that resonates with the audience and highlights the impact of IOM's work. The primary goal is to ensure that migration is humane, regular, and orderly for all. The volunteer will work closely with IBG's social media focal points to create and schedule posts for Twitter and LinkedIn, engage with country and regional focal points, write blog-style articles, and monitor social media performance. This role requires active participation in a WhatsApp group for communication and coordination, as well as monthly virtual meetings to discuss progress and strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and schedule regular posts for Twitter and LinkedIn, ensuring alignment with IOM's messaging and objectives (minimum of 2 posts per week for each platform).
Engage with country and regional focal points to facilitate the re-sharing or re-tweeting of content, thereby amplifying reach and impact.
Write blog-style articles that highlight IOM's initiatives, success stories, and thematic areas (at least 2 articles in total).
Collaborate with IBG's social media focal points and other online volunteers to brainstorm content ideas and participate in at least 1 brainstorming session per month.
Monitor social media performance and provide regular updates on content engagement and reach, including support in drafting a quarterly social media report.
Maintain active communication in an ad-hoc WhatsApp group for coordination with the team.
Attend monthly virtual meetings to discuss strategies and updates, with specific dates and times to be determined based on availability.
Utilize email for sharing articles and complex multimedia content, including the quarterly report.
Work independently while also being a collaborative team member, maintaining a mutual degree of flexibility.
Required Qualifications:
Strong understanding of social media platforms, particularly Twitter and LinkedIn.
Excellent writing skills, with the ability to create engaging and informative content.
Familiarity with migration issues and the work of IOM is an advantage.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
