Job Overview: The position of Technical Equipment Assessment and Maintenance Coordinator is integral to the Better Education for Africa’s Rise (BEAR II) project, which aims to enhance Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems in Eastern Africa. This role involves evaluating and maintaining technical equipment provided to educational institutions in Tanzania, specifically the Karume Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) and the Morogoro Vocational Teachers Training College (MVTTC). The coordinator will ensure that the equipment is functional, sustainable, and effectively utilized in training programs, thereby supporting the overarching goal of empowering young people through quality education and training that meets labor market demands. The coordinator will also be responsible for developing maintenance plans, training staff, and compiling reports that inform future procurement and maintenance strategies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Equipment Assessment and Maintenance Coordinator will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including:
Conducting a thorough evaluation of the operational condition and utilization of the equipment at KIST and MVTTC.
Identifying and documenting any issues affecting the equipment's functionality and proposing immediate maintenance or repair solutions.
Executing repairs on defective items to restore their functionality.
Developing a preventive maintenance plan that includes regular inspections and guidelines for equipment handling.
Training technical staff and faculty on equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
Assessing how the equipment aligns with training objectives and recommending adjustments to optimize its impact on skill development.
Compiling findings from the assessment process and providing actionable recommendations for improving equipment management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess proven experience of at least five years in coordinating assessment, maintenance, and logistical support for equipment across various sectors. A strong track record in managing similar assignments, including conducting assessments and developing maintenance plans, is essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to produce comprehensive technical reports with actionable recommendations. Experience in Tanzania or Eastern Africa, particularly with local TVET systems and industry requirements, is highly desirable. A registered firm or company with valid business licenses is required, demonstrating compliance with relevant regulations and the capacity to operate across various sectors.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background in engineering, technical management, or a related field is required. Candidates should have formal training or certifications in equipment maintenance and management, as well as experience in technical education or vocational training environments.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in coordinating equipment assessments and maintenance activities. Experience in the education sector, particularly in technical and vocational training, is preferred. Familiarity with the operational context of TVET institutions in Tanzania or Eastern Africa will be considered an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNESCO and for documentation purposes. Knowledge of Swahili is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of training and support activities.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as a non-staff contract with a duration of 1 to 6 months.
