Job Overview:
The Reviser will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of translations produced by the Arabic Translation Section. This position requires the incumbent to revise translations on a wide array of subjects pertinent to the United Nations, ensuring that the translations meet or exceed the established workload standards. The Reviser will also be responsible for translating texts on a self-revising basis, particularly those that require a high level of expertise and proficiency. The role involves utilizing standard computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools and contributing to the implementation of related IT tools and improvements. Additionally, the Reviser will develop new terminology for use in the target language where none exists, conduct linguistic research, and provide input to multilingual terminology databases. The position also includes counseling and assisting translators, participating in the establishment of terminology standards, and supervising small groups of translators. The Reviser must maintain a high output speed while meeting deadlines and will also be involved in data analysis to identify trends and provide insights for decision-making.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Reviser will be responsible for the following duties: revising translations across a broad range of subjects, translating texts on a self-revising basis, utilizing CAT tools, developing new terminology, conducting linguistic research, providing input to terminology databases, counseling and assisting translators, participating in terminology standard setting, maintaining output speed and quality, meeting document production deadlines, supervising small groups of translators, acting as Programming Officer when required, collecting and analyzing data for insights, and performing other related duties as necessary. The role demands a high level of professionalism, teamwork, accountability, and planning and organizing skills.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a first-level degree from a university or institution of equivalent status. Additionally, passing the relevant combined United Nations Language Competitive Examination for Arabic Translators or a relevant examination for Arabic Translators held before 2017 is required. The position requires a perfect command of Arabic as the main language, excellent knowledge of English, and knowledge of one other United Nations official language, as tested by the relevant examinations.

Educational Background:
A first-level degree from a recognized university or institution is mandatory for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that candidates have the necessary foundational knowledge and skills required for the role.

Experience:
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of experience in translation, précis-writing, editing, self-revision, verbatim-reporting, copy preparing, proofreading, or production editing. Out of this experience, three years in a multilingual setting is desirable. Experience within the United Nations Common System or similar international organizations is also preferred, particularly in translation across a broad range of subjects dealt with by the United Nations, including legal, economic, or technical documents. Experience in data analytics or related areas is also desirable, along with experience in self-revision.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is a perfect command of Arabic, which must be the candidate's main language. Excellent knowledge of English is also required, as tested by the relevant United Nations language competitive examination. Additionally, knowledge of one other United Nations official language is required, which must also be validated through the relevant examination.
