Job Overview: The Policy Officer position is situated within the Rural Transformation and Gender Equality Division (ESP) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy. The role involves providing analytical and operational support for results-based policy assistance and governance work related to the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty (GAAHP). The officer will be responsible for collecting and analyzing relevant data, statistics, and information to support various programs and projects aimed at reducing hunger and poverty. This position requires collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including governments and inter-governmental bodies, to formulate and implement effective policies and programs. The officer will also contribute to the development of training tools and materials, organize workshops and seminars, and participate in multi-disciplinary project teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Policy Officer will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including:
Collecting and analyzing technical, social, economic, environmental, and institutional data to support program delivery.
Providing technical input for plans and reports, and editing/revising technical documents.
Participating in the development of improved work methods, tools, and systems.
Updating databases and web pages relevant to the Global Alliance.
Collaborating in the development of training materials and organizing workshops/seminars.
Assisting in the organization and follow-up of meetings, consultations, and conferences.
Contributing to the curation and maintenance of the reference basket of policy instruments and programs.
Conducting policy analysis and disseminating information on effective policy instruments.
Supporting the production of knowledge products and information sharing materials for global summits. 1
Tracking results from global, regional, and country-level partnerships. 1
Participating in inter-agency collaboration on the Global Alliance. 1
Undertaking other assignments related to the implementation of the Global Alliance's Terms of Reference.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in political sciences, social sciences, economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of relevant experience in policy analysis and assistance work, particularly in areas related to social protection, poverty eradication, and food and nutrition security. A strong understanding of monitoring and evaluation of policies and programs is also essential. Candidates should demonstrate proficiency in English and have intermediate knowledge of another official FAO language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in fields such as political sciences, social sciences, economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, or sustainable agriculture.
