Job Overview:
The Operational Information Management (OIM) Officer plays a pivotal role in ensuring the timely, accurate, and coherent flow of strategic and operational information across the World Food Programme. This position is crucial for maintaining a common operational picture of WFP operations, particularly in the context of emergencies and humanitarian responses. The OIM Officer will lead and coordinate global OIM activities, ensuring that operational information is consistent, high-quality, and strategically aligned with WFP's objectives. This role supports evidence-based decision-making and coherent external messaging, which are essential for effective humanitarian assistance. The OIM function is responsible for managing information flows, producing key operational information products, and enhancing digital platforms and systems to improve efficiency and analysis. The OIM Officer will also promote innovation and the use of emerging technologies to streamline processes and improve outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and institutionalization of OIM governance frameworks, including standards, workflows, guidance, quality assurance mechanisms, and best practices to support coherent information flows across WFP.
  • Manage the production and dissemination of key operational information products, including the Daily Operational Brief (DOB), strategic operational messaging, and synthesis of global operational information into concise, actionable insights for leadership and internal audiences.
  • Design, continuously improve, and deliver OIM tools, templates, training materials, and procedures, ensuring alignment with evolving operational needs and corporate standards.
  • Manage and enhance OIM digital platforms and systems, ensuring effective governance, usability, analytics, integration, and performance.
  • Promote innovation, automation, and the use of emerging technologies, including AI-enabled solutions, to improve efficiency and strengthen analysis.
  • Coordinate and support information management during emergencies, leading the production of information products and providing surge support to country offices as required.
  • Strengthen the global OIM network through collaboration, workforce development, and stakeholder engagement, including onboarding new staff and ensuring strategic alignment across functions and levels of the organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent written skills in English, with the ability to synthesize complex information and tailor messages to diverse audiences. Strong analytical, information, and knowledge management skills are essential, along with the ability to quality assure and clear the Daily Operational Brief under delegated authority. A sound knowledge of business processes and UN/WFP systems, procedures, and information management best practices is required. Proven organizational skills, flexibility, and adaptability to support evolving operational needs are crucial. Experience in leveraging AI solutions and developing AI agents to support business processes and information management is highly desirable. Strong coordination and collaboration skills are necessary to work effectively in a team and influence stakeholders from diverse cultural backgrounds.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in International Relations, Political Science, Economics, Statistics, Information Management, Journalism, or another relevant field is required for this position. This educational background provides the necessary foundation for understanding the complexities of humanitarian operations and information management.

Experience:
Candidates should have between 6 and 10 years of postgraduate-related professional work experience in information management, reporting, or related fields. This level of experience is essential to ensure that the OIM Officer can effectively manage the responsibilities of the role and contribute to the overall success of WFP's operations.

Languages:
Excellent writing skills in English are mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the ability to communicate with diverse stakeholders and audiences.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in Rome HQ and requires full on-site presence. The role includes early morning coverage of the Daily Operational Brief, with corresponding time-off arrangements.
