Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will join the Innovation and Programme Coordination Unit within the Regional Office (RO) of UNFPA, supporting the provision of Technical Assistance (TA) to country offices. The role involves liaising with UNFPA Headquarters to align programs, operationalizing innovation and digitalization plans, coordinating Country Innovation Focal Points, and assisting in the implementation of various donor-supported projects. The volunteer will play a crucial role in implementing innovation challenges, supporting communications activities, and ensuring that the Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) perspective is integrated into all activities. This position is vital for advancing UNFPA's mission in the region and ensuring that innovative solutions are identified and scaled effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of innovation challenges, including HackLabs focused on youth mental health and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). They will support the coordination of Country Innovation Focal Points across 23 countries, provide technical assistance for developing and implementing country innovation frameworks, and assist in the implementation of the UNFPA ENGINE virtual incubation hub. The volunteer will also support regional communication efforts, including the production of a quarterly innovation newsletter and dissemination of the social innovation toolkit. Additional responsibilities include documentation and reporting of regional innovation initiatives, engaging with Country Innovation Focal Points to increase the number of emerging innovation solutions, and ensuring that all activities reflect a commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement and UNFPA's mission.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong analytical skills, active listening abilities, and a commitment to teamwork and respect for diversity. Excellent communication skills, computer proficiency, and customer service skills are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to continuous learning. Planning and organizing skills are also important, along with a genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement, including solidarity, compassion, reciprocity, and self-reliance. Educational Background:
A relevant degree in social sciences, public health, international development, or a related field is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in innovation, program coordination, or related areas will be preferred. Educational qualifications should reflect a strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues, gender equality, and population dynamics.

Experience:
Candidates should have experience in program coordination, innovation management, or related fields, preferably within an international development context. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is an advantage. Familiarity with the challenges and opportunities in sexual and reproductive health, gender-based violence prevention, and youth engagement is highly desirable. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, is considered an asset. Proficiency in languages such as French or Portuguese may enhance the candidate's suitability for the role, given the diverse linguistic landscape of the countries involved.

Additional Notes:
The position is a full-time volunteer role with a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of R22,926.0
  • Volunteers will receive a one-time entry lump sum of $400 at the start of the assignment, along with medical insurance, life cover, and annual leave. Access to learning platforms is provided, and a one-time exit lump sum is given at the end of the assignment.
