Job Overview:
The Programme Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the Innovation and Programme Coordination Unit (PCU) within the Regional Office (RO) of UNFPA. This position involves providing integrated programme and technical support, particularly for donor-funded projects, including the Zonta Foundation funded Climate Innovation Project. The Assistant will collaborate closely with the PCU and EKI Programme Associates to ensure effective operations and administration of the regional innovation programme. The role requires assisting the programme team in operational and programme matters, logistical arrangements for events, budget preparation, and maintaining project files. The Assistant will also contribute to data and research assistance, ensuring that the regional programme aligns with UNFPA's overall strategy and objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Assistant will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting the programme team in providing operational support to Country Offices (COs); organizing logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements for workshops, meetings, and events; preparing and monitoring budgets for regional initiatives; reviewing correspondence and drafting responses; preparing travel authorizations and arrangements; maintaining the office filing system; updating project files and reports; preparing requisition requests in Quantum and Quantum Plus; following up on financial and programme reports; participating in UNV activities; contributing articles for publications; assisting with the UNV Buddy Programme; and performing any other duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical skills, active listening skills, teamwork, communication skills, computer skills, customer service skills, and interpersonal skills. The role requires a commitment to achieving results, accountability, and professionalism. The ideal candidate should be an analytical and strategic thinker, capable of navigating complex operational environments and supporting diverse teams effectively.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in social sciences, public administration, international relations, or a related field. Candidates with additional certifications or training in project management or administration will be viewed favorably.

Experience:
The position requires prior experience in programme support, administration, or related fields. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Experience in international development or with UN agencies is an advantage, as is familiarity with financial management and reporting processes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, is considered an asset and may enhance a candidate's profile.

Additional Notes:
This position is based in South Africa and may involve working in a dynamic and sometimes challenging environment. The role is full-time and offers a Monthly Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of R22,926.08, along with a one-time entry lump sum of $400 at the start of the assignment. Additional benefits include medical insurance, life cover, annual leave, access to learning platforms, and a one-time exit lump sum at the end of the assignment.
