Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a range of duties, including:
Monitoring human rights issues and cases in accordance with treaty body mechanisms and special procedures.
Preparing a monthly review that summarizes the human rights situation in the assigned region for inclusion in the office's monthly report.
Overseeing the maintenance and further development of the office's information and resource tools, including updating and producing these resources as necessary.
Contributing to the preparation of internal and external reports on the work of the Central Africa Regional Office.
Attending meetings and conferences as requested, and taking detailed notes for future reference.
Assisting the supervising Human Rights Officer in organizing workshops and activities related to the office's work.
Familiarizing oneself with human rights mechanisms, conventions, and Human Rights Council procedures.
Conducting political and legal analysis on specific topics relevant to the Central Africa Regional Office, such as statelessness and the rights of migrant domestic workers.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must meet the following qualifications: a) Enrollment in or completion of a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, such as a Master’s degree or higher, or a Ph.D. or postgraduate degree). b) Enrollment in or completion of the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent). This ensures that candidates possess the necessary academic background to engage with complex human rights issues effectively.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate program, which may include a Master’s degree or higher, or a Ph.D. Additionally, candidates should have completed the final year of a Bachelor’s degree program. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the legal and political frameworks surrounding human rights.
