Job Overview: The Risk Management Expert (International Consultant) position is designed for an individual contractor who will provide expert advice and support in the area of risk management. The consultant will be responsible for identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks associated with UNDP projects and initiatives. This role requires a deep understanding of risk management frameworks and methodologies, as well as the ability to develop and implement effective risk management strategies. The consultant will work closely with UNDP teams to ensure that risk management practices are integrated into project planning and execution. The assignment is expected to last for 9 work months within an 11-month period, allowing for flexibility in the consultant's schedule while ensuring that all deliverables are met in a timely manner.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Risk Management Expert include but are not limited to:
Conducting comprehensive risk assessments for UNDP projects, identifying potential risks and their impacts.
Developing risk management plans that outline strategies for mitigating identified risks.
Collaborating with project teams to integrate risk management practices into project design and implementation.
Providing training and capacity-building support to UNDP staff on risk management principles and practices.
Monitoring and reporting on the effectiveness of risk management strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
Advising on best practices and lessons learned in risk management from previous projects.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations for stakeholders on risk management findings and recommendations.
Required Qualifications: The position requires the following qualifications:
Proven expertise in risk management, with a strong understanding of risk assessment methodologies and frameworks.
Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of development projects.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and strategically about risk management issues.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
Proficiency in using risk management software and tools is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as Risk Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related discipline. Additional certifications in risk management or project management are highly desirable and will be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in risk management, preferably within the context of international development. Experience in managing risks in complex projects and familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures will be highly regarded. Previous consultancy experience is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and documentation will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the regions where UNDP operates, would be considered an asset but is not required.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as a home-based consultancy, allowing for flexibility in work hours and location. The contract duration is for 9 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. The consultant will be compensated according to UNDP's established rates for individual contractors, and benefits may include access to training and professional development opportunities.
