Job Overview:
The Driver will be responsible for the safe transportation of authorized personnel and general cargo goods. This role involves making deliveries of parcels and documents between the office and various institutions, including Ministries, Embassies, and Permanent Missions. The Driver will also be tasked with making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers, ensuring compliance with customs regulations when collecting goods. The position requires the Driver to meet official personnel at the airport and interact effectively with officials and visitors. Additionally, the Driver is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles, including checking oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, performing minor repairs, and ensuring the vehicle is kept clean. The Driver must log fuel consumption and maintenance activities, and follow the necessary procedures in case of an accident. Good judgment is essential in this role, as well as the ability to perform other duties as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver's duties include:
  • Safely driving vehicles for the transport of authorized personnel and general cargo.
  • Delivering parcels and documents between the office and other institutions.
  • Making minor purchases and collecting urgent items from local suppliers.
  • Collecting goods from customs while adhering to regulations.
  • Meeting official personnel at the airport.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, the candidate must have completed driver training and possess a valid driver’s license. A safe driving record is essential, and candidates should demonstrate professionalism and a commitment to the responsibilities of the role. Knowledge of driving rules and regulations, as well as familiarity with the area and road conditions, is crucial. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and to prioritize tasks effectively is also important.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess at least a high school diploma or equivalent. This educational background is essential for understanding the responsibilities associated with the position and for ensuring compliance with driving regulations and safety standards.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience as a driver with a safe driving record is required. Languages:
Fluency in oral and written English is required for this position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of French is considered an asset, as it is also a working language of the UN.

This position is temporarily available, with the possibility of extension subject to the availability of funds. It is subject to local recruitment, meaning that applicants must be authorized to work for the United Nations in the duty station where the position is located. Eligible applicants selected from outside the duty station will be responsible for any relocation expenses. Staff members subject to local recruitment are not eligible for allowances or benefits exclusive to international recruitment. The position is a temporary assignment, which may provide the successful applicant with new work experience but does not guarantee future employment in the same role.
