Job Overview:
The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed for individuals who are passionate about diversity, equity, and inclusion, particularly in enhancing geographical diversity within the UN Secretariat. Interns will engage in various tasks that support the coordination of efforts aimed at increasing geographical representation among the workforce. This role requires strong research, analytical, and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. Interns will be involved in developing partnerships with Member States, conducting outreach campaigns, and implementing innovative talent initiatives to attract candidates from underrepresented regions. The position is full-time and in-person, located in New York, and expected to last between 3 to 6 months.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for assisting in the coordination of various programs and projects, providing support for planning and implementation activities involving multiple stakeholders. Key duties include researching and analyzing geographical diversity trends, contributing to the development of strategies aimed at increasing representation, monitoring and evaluating programs, drafting correspondence, and organizing diversity-focused events. The intern will also liaise with internal and external partners, assist in creating internal communications, and draft summaries and minutes of meetings. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of the initiatives related to diversity and inclusion within the UN.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in public information, communications, social science, or a related field, or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Excellent communication and drafting skills are desirable, along with proficiency in MS Office and other standard software applications. Skills in drafting news articles, social media posts, and designing surveys are also advantageous.

Educational Background:
Candidates must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. program, or have completed such programs. Proof of enrollment or completion must be provided with the application. The educational background should ideally be in fields related to public information, communications, social sciences, or similar areas that align with the internship's focus on diversity and inclusion.

Experience:
While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework that demonstrates their understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion issues. The internship is designed for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in a global organization and contribute to meaningful initiatives.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is considered an advantage. The working languages of the United Nations Secretariat are English and French, with Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and Spanish also being official languages. Proficiency in these languages can enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
