Job Posting Organization: The Office of Financial Management (OFM) is part of the Bureau for Management Services, which supports the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in promoting sustainablehuman development. Job Overview: The Accounts Associate position is integral to the Financial Performance Management and Reporting (FPMR) Division within the OFM. This role involves assisting in the preparation of financial statements and ensuring data integrity within UNDP's financial systems. The Accounts Associate will work under the supervision of the Accounts Specialist or Accounts Analyst, providing support in financial closures, maintaining master data elements, and offering accounting and financial policy guidance to UNDP offices. The position requires a proactive approach to monitoring compliance with financial procedures and supporting oversight and risk management of Agency services transactions. The Accounts Associate will also collaborate with various teams to automate business processes and reports, ensuring accurate financial reporting and analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in the preparation of statutory and corporate reports, including Financial Statements, Trust fund statements, and Executive Board reports, ensuring data integrity and compliance with financial procedures.
Collaborate with the OFM Business Analytics team to automate business processes and reports, regularly monitoring financial dashboards to identify data errors and perform reconciliations.
Support the oversight of assigned financial processes, liaising with various teams to ensure corrective actions are taken where necessary.
Maintain core accounting information and assist with the preparation and review of the general ledger, ensuring significant issues are identified and resolved.
Provide assistance in monitoring compliance with financial procedures and contribute to the elaboration of internal Standard Operating Procedures in Finance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary education with specialized certification in Accounting and/or Finance. A university degree in Finance or Accounting is desirable, along with a professional accounting qualification from an internationally recognized institute. Candidates with a secondary school education must have a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in finance, while those with a Bachelor's or Master's degree must have at least 3 years of relevant experience. Proficiency in using computers and MS Office packages, advanced knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, and hands-on experience with CRM and ERP systems, preferably PeopleSoft/Oracle, are essential. Knowledge of IPSAS and/or IFRS is required for external candidates, along with fluency in English and a working knowledge of another UN language (French/Spanish/Arabic) being desirable.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes secondary education with specialized certification in Accounting and/or Finance. A university degree in Finance or Accounting is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates must hold a professional accounting qualification certificate from an internationally recognized institute of accountancy.
Experience: The level of experience required for this position varies based on educational qualifications. Candidates with only secondary school education must have a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in finance at the national or international level. Those with a Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting or related fields must have at least 3 years of relevant experience.
