Job Overview: The WASH Coordinator position is crucial for the technical development, strategic direction, and quality assurance of NRC's WASH activities in Gaza, Palestine. This role involves mentoring staff and ensuring adherence to NRC’s guidelines for project governance. The WASH Coordinator will oversee the planning and coordination of WASH projects across the region, ensuring that all activities align with NRC’s mission and the needs of the affected populations. The position requires a proactive approach to identifying trends, technical standards, and donor priorities, as well as a commitment to promoting the rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees through inclusive WASH programming.
Duties and Responsibilities: The WASH Coordinator will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
Developing a Gaza-level WASH strategy and technical guidance, ensuring compliance with NRC policies.
Collaborating with the WASH Project Manager (PM) on fundraising efforts, including the development and revision of funding proposals, budgets, and donor reports.
Coordinating and managing the implementation of WASH projects, ensuring alignment with proposals and donor requirements.
Extracting key learnings from project implementation and incorporating them into staff development processes.
Conducting systematic training to build the capacity of technical WASH staff.
Collecting and providing regular progress reports to the WASH PM and WASH Specialist.
Representing NRC in relevant forums and clusters, including with national authorities and donors.
Ensuring that WASH-related constructions adhere to established norms and standards. 1
Supporting the WASH PM in establishing effective WASH responses and delivering emergency lifesaving activities during recovery phases.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of three years of experience in the technical area of humanitarian WASH. They should have documented results related to the responsibilities of the position and possess knowledge of their own leadership skills and profile. Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is essential for effective communication and reporting.
Educational Background: A valid university degree in Civil Engineering, construction, or a relevant field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the technical aspects of WASH projects and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience in the humanitarian WASH sector. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of WASH principles and practices, as well as experience in project management and implementation in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this role. Knowledge of national languages, specifically Dari and Pashto, is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is 12 months, with a standard working schedule of 40 hours per week, from Sunday to Thursday. The salary and benefits will be based on NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions, specific to the Gaza duty station. The position is open to residents of the Gaza Strip only, and the start date is as soon as possible.
