Established in 1969, UNFPA operates in over 150 countries and territories, working to ensure that every individual has access to sexual and reproductive health services, and that gender equality is achieved. The organization is committed to addressing the negative impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on women and girls, and it emphasizes the importance of principled and ethical staff who embody international norms and standards.
Job Overview: The position of International Consultant involves developing and facilitating workshops aimed at strengthening the capacities of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in engaging men to promote gender equality and change social norms related to gender-based violence (GBV). The consultant will work closely with a national expert and will be responsible for conducting two workshops in Kazakhstan, specifically in Astana and Almaty. The workshops are part of the UK ISF project, which adopts a holistic, gender-transformative approach to address the root causes of GBV. The consultant will also support a team leader in coordinating and facilitating a three-day regional workshop focused on addressing discriminatory gender social norms in Central Asian countries. The role requires a deep understanding of gender issues, the ability to develop training materials, and the capacity to engage diverse stakeholders in meaningful discussions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for several key tasks: 1) Develop and facilitate two three-day workshops for CSOs on engaging men and changing social norms related to GBV. This includes reviewing existing documents, creating a Concept Note and Agenda, preparing presentations and handouts, and ensuring materials are contextually relevant. 2) Facilitate discussions and provide a safe space for participants to share challenges and develop actionable strategies. 3) Support the team leader in coordinating a regional workshop, which involves reviewing relevant literature, developing workshop materials in both English and Russian, and facilitating sessions on positive masculinities and gender norms. 4) Prepare detailed reports on workshop outcomes, integrating feedback from participants to assess the effectiveness of the workshops.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a higher education degree in humanities or related fields, with a master's degree being an advantage. Extensive experience of at least 10 years in gender equality, GBV, and addressing discriminatory gender norms is required. The consultant should have a proven track record in developing training materials on GBV issues and experience in creating strategic documents related to men's involvement in gender equality. Knowledge of the SGBV agenda, particularly in Central Asian contexts, is essential, along with experience working with UN agencies or international organizations on similar assignments.
Educational Background: A higher education degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, gender studies, or public health is required. A master's degree in these areas is preferred and will be considered an advantage for candidates applying for this position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in gender equality, gender-based violence, and working on initiatives related to engaging men in gender issues. Candidates should have experience in developing training materials and conducting workshops, as well as familiarity with the MenEngage concept and positive masculinity. Previous work with UN agencies or international organizations on gender-related projects is highly desirable.
Languages: Fluency in Russian is mandatory for this position, while proficiency in English is considered an advantage. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages is essential for facilitating workshops and engaging with diverse participants.
Additional Notes: The position is expected to be full-time and may involve travel between Astana and Almaty for the workshops.
