Job Overview: The Internal Communications Advisor will play a crucial role in developing and implementing the internal communication strategy for UNOPS. This position requires close collaboration with various groups within the organization, including the People and Culture Group, the Strategy and Transformation Group, and the Executive Office. The advisor will be responsible for ensuring that internal communications align with the strategic objectives of UNOPS, measuring the effectiveness of communication channels, and making necessary adjustments to the strategy. The role also involves drafting content for communication between leadership and personnel, providing advisory services to leaders, and leading the Internal Communications team to ensure effective communication practices across the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Internal Communications Advisor will have a wide range of responsibilities, including:
Developing and coordinating the implementation of the UNOPS internal communication strategy over a six-month period.
Continuously measuring the effectiveness of internal communications messages and channels, making recommendations for improvements.
Drafting regular content for communication between leadership and all personnel, as well as quarterly communications on key themes.
Providing advisory services to leaders on effective internal communication and crisis communication challenges.
Supporting country and regional offices in developing their internal communications strategies.
Chairing biweekly sessions between the Executive Office and the People and Culture Group to ensure consistent communications.
Leading the Internal Communications team, developing work plans, and monitoring performance.
Facilitating global communications across the organization and contributing to knowledge sharing initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in communications, internal communications, or a related field. A bachelor's degree may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree if the candidate has an additional two years of relevant experience. Candidates should have at least seven years of relevant experience in management communications within large, global, and cross-cultural organizations, including advising senior management. A minimum of five years of supervisory experience is required, and experience in organizational change management communications or internal crisis communication is desirable. Familiarity with UNOPS is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in communications, internal communications, or a relevant discipline. Candidates with a bachelor's degree may be considered if they have two additional years of relevant experience, making a total of nine years of experience in the field.
Experience: The position requires at least seven years of relevant experience working with management communications in large, global, and cross-cultural organizations. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of supervisory experience, demonstrating their ability to lead teams effectively. Experience in organizational change management communications and internal crisis communication is desirable, as is familiarity with UNOPS operations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in Spanish or French is strongly desired, as these languages will enhance communication within the diverse UNOPS workforce and with various stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is initially for six months, covering maternity leave, with the possibility of extension depending on organizational needs. The position is classified at the ICS-11 level, and it is an international ICA contract.
