Job Overview: The OECD's Directorate for Employment, Labour and Social Affairs (ELS) is seeking a Statistician to support statistical activities related to migration, integration, and expatriation. This role involves the full cycle of statistical work, from data collection to dissemination, and requires excellent programming skills, knowledge of data visualization tools, and the ability to communicate complex results effectively. The Statistician will work within a dynamic team of economists, demographers, and migration policy experts, primarily contributing to the annual publication 'International Migration Outlook' while also supporting various other projects. The position demands a proactive approach to updating and expanding international migration datasets, utilizing R and Stata for data compilation and analysis, and engaging with national statistical offices and migration experts.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Statistician will be responsible for updating and expanding international migration datasets, which includes collating data from publicly available databases and internal collections. The role involves compiling data and indicators, developing scripts in R and Stata, and updating OECD.Stat data cubes. The Statistician will also support migration data dissemination, automate updates of key tables and graphs, and suggest innovative data visualization methods. Additionally, the role requires liaising with national statistical offices and keeping abreast of new data sources. The Statistician will contribute to the standardization of migration flows, maintain documentation on work procedures, conduct descriptive and econometric statistical analyses, and participate in drafting statistical publications and reports.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess a Master's degree or equivalent in statistics, demography, econometrics, mathematics, engineering, or a related scientific field. A strong knowledge of statistical databases and information technology is essential. Candidates should have at least three years of experience in a similar role, with a preference for five years. Experience in producing and using statistics, analyzing large survey datasets, and familiarity with complex micro-level data related to economics, labor, social issues, or migration is highly desirable. Proficiency in statistical models and econometric techniques, as well as a good understanding of data visualization tools, is required.
Educational Background: Candidates must have a Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field such as statistics, demography, econometrics, mathematics, or engineering. A solid foundation in statistical databases and information technology is crucial for success in this role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of relevant experience, with five years being preferred. Candidates should have a background in the production and use of statistics, including documentation on data sources and methodologies. Experience analyzing large datasets, particularly from national and European labor force surveys, administrative data, and census data, is an asset. Familiarity with statistical models and econometric techniques is also important.
Languages: Fluency in one of the two official OECD languages (English or French) is mandatory, along with a good working knowledge of the other language. This bilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a 13-month fixed-term appointment with the possibility of renewal. The monthly salary starts at 5,741 EUR, with additional allowances based on eligibility, and is exempt from French income tax.
