Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is designed to support the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, which focuses on verifying the implementation of peace agreements between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP. The volunteer will work under the supervision of a Regional, Subregional, or Local Team Leader, engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather information, monitor compliance with peace agreements, and support the reintegration of former combatants. This role requires building strong relationships with various parties, analyzing security dynamics, and contributing to reports that inform the mission's activities. The volunteer will also assist in promoting peace and reconciliation initiatives within affected communities, ensuring that the mission's objectives are met effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including: frequently visiting meeting areas and nearby towns to understand local dynamics; building relationships with parties, local actors, and communities; supporting regional teams in implementing mission activities; monitoring incidents and alleged violations of the Final Agreement; analyzing security parameters; preparing and analyzing reports; maintaining relationships with authorities involved in security guarantees; monitoring institutional commitments in reincorporation; supporting economic reintegration projects; creating communication materials for peace education; participating in Municipal Peace Councils; serving as a liaison between UN counterparts and local actors; and performing additional functions as needed. Furthermore, the volunteer is expected to strengthen their understanding of volunteerism, engage in UNV activities, and contribute to reporting and communication efforts.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer position should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. They should demonstrate a commitment to the principles of volunteerism and have a proactive approach to problem-solving. Additionally, candidates should have a good understanding of the political and social context in Colombia, particularly regarding the peace process and the challenges faced by former combatants and affected communities. Familiarity with monitoring and evaluation processes, as well as experience in community engagement, is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, peace studies, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees or specialized training in conflict resolution, community development, or human rights may be advantageous. Candidates should also have a strong academic background that demonstrates their ability to analyze complex social and political issues.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in community engagement, monitoring and evaluation, or peacebuilding initiatives. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or governmental agencies in a similar context is highly valued. Candidates should also have a proven track record of working effectively in challenging environments and managing relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication in Colombia. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and communication with international counterparts. Knowledge of indigenous languages or other local dialects can be considered an asset, enhancing the volunteer's ability to engage with various communities.
