Job Overview: The Young Associate will be an integral part of the Advisors’ team within the Environment Directorate’s Director’s Office. This position is designed for recent graduates who will work under the supervision of the Counsellor, providing support to the Director and Deputy Directors. The Young Associate will contribute to the team’s efforts to effectively communicate the work of the Environment Directorate in engagements involving the Secretary-General and Deputy Secretary-General. The role involves preparing background notes, speeches, and talking points on critical environmental issues such as climate change, biodiversity, pollution, and sustainable finance. The Young Associate will also engage in outreach and communication activities, ensuring that the Directorate's messages are effectively conveyed in broader OECD initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Young Associate will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
Assisting in the preparation of background notes, speeches, and talking points for the Office of the Secretary-General and the Environment Directorate’s leadership.
Supporting outreach and communication efforts by preparing materials to promote key outputs and messages at significant internal and external events.
Contributing to research and analysis for OECD-wide horizontal activities, focusing on topics such as ocean management, gender issues, and infrastructure development.
Organizing official and informal meetings and events, including preparing meeting notes and summaries.
Coordinating with teams both within and outside the Directorate to ensure effective collaboration.
Staying informed about international environmental issues and contributing to various ad hoc projects and tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the Young Associate position should possess the following qualifications:
An undergraduate degree in environmental policy, science and management, economics, political science, public policy, or a related discipline, with a graduation date between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 202
Candidates who already hold or are enrolled in a Master’s, PhD, or equivalent degree will not be considered.
Coursework in at least two of the following areas: Natural Resources Governance/Management, Environmental Economics, Climate Change Policy and Management, Climate Geopolitics, or Biodiversity Management.
A solid understanding of major environmental challenges facing the world today.
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, along with strong research, writing, and analytical abilities.
Educational Background: Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in a relevant field such as environmental policy, science and management, economics, political science, or public policy. The degree must be obtained between 1 January 2024 and 1 September 202
Coursework in specific areas related to environmental governance and management is also required, ensuring that candidates have a foundational understanding of the key issues in the field.
Experience: The position is targeted at recent graduates, meaning that candidates should have limited professional experience, ideally related to environmental policy or management. The focus is on individuals who are entering the workforce and are eager to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting within an international organization.
Languages: Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages, English or French, is mandatory. Candidates should also have a willingness to learn the other language, which is essential for effective communication within the organization and with member countries.
