The Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA), operating under the OECD framework, focuses on nuclear safety, technology, and law, assisting its 34 member countries in the safe and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

Job Overview:
The Nuclear Scientist position at the NEA involves providing technical and secretariat support to the Nuclear Science Committee and Data Bank activities, particularly in the areas of criticality safety and nuclear data. The selected candidate will work closely with the Division of Nuclear Science and Education or the Data Bank, under the supervision of the respective heads. The role requires a proactive approach to advance the NEA's program of work related to nuclear safety and data, including organizing international workshops, drafting reports, and maintaining communication with national experts and international organizations. The candidate will also be responsible for anticipating trends and advising management on member countries' needs in nuclear technology policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Nuclear Scientist will perform a variety of duties, including:
  • Providing technical secretariat support to the Working Party on Nuclear Criticality Safety (WPNCS), Working Party on International Nuclear Data Evaluation Co-operation (WPEC), and Joint Evaluated Fission and Fusion (JEFF) project.
  • Preparing meetings, drafting and editing technical/scientific reports, and maintaining relevant websites.
  • Supporting the development and communication of international databases and applications, such as the ICSBEP Handbook and Nuclear Data Sensitivity Tool (NDaST).
  • Organizing international scientific workshops and conferences, including the preparation of proceedings.
  • Drafting and presenting reports to NEA committees and working groups.
  • Developing relationships with national experts and coordinating with other international organizations.
  • Facilitating information exchange through collaborative platforms and promoting the visibility of work products.
  • Carrying out other related duties as assigned by the Head of the Division of Nuclear Science and Education or Head of the Data Bank.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field. A minimum of five years of research experience in the nuclear sector is required, with specific expertise in nuclear criticality safety and/or nuclear data. Demonstrated experience in preparing research materials for publication, such as peer-reviewed scientific publications and technical reports, is essential. Candidates should also have excellent knowledge of nuclear criticality analysis and data evaluation/processing.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in nuclear physics, nuclear engineering, or a closely related subject is mandatory for this position. This educational background should provide the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge required to perform the duties associated with nuclear science and safety effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant research experience in the nuclear sector, which may include work in research laboratories, industry, or technical support organizations. Candidates should have specific experience in nuclear criticality safety and/or nuclear data, demonstrating their capability to contribute to the NEA's objectives effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages, English or French, is mandatory. Candidates should also have knowledge of, or a willingness to learn, the other language to facilitate effective communication within the organization and with member countries.

Additional Notes:
This position is a two-year fixed-term appointment with the possibility of renewal. The monthly salary starts at 6665.76 EUR, with a base salary of 7738.74 EUR plus allowances, exempt from French income tax. The OECD has a mandatory retirement age of 6
