Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer position is designed to support the United Nations Verification Mission in Colombia, which is tasked with monitoring and verifying the implementation of peace agreements between the Colombian government and the FARC-EP. The volunteer will work under the supervision of a Regional, Subregional, or Local Team Leader, engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather information on the ground dynamics and challenges faced by the parties involved in the peace process. The role requires building strong relationships with various actors, including local authorities and affected communities, to facilitate the mission's objectives. The volunteer will also assist in the preparation of reports, monitoring incidents, and supporting the implementation of economic reintegration projects for former combatants. This position is crucial for ensuring the success of the peace process and fostering reconciliation in Colombia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: frequently visiting meeting areas and nearby towns to understand local dynamics; building relationships with parties, local actors, and communities; supporting regional teams in implementing mission activities; monitoring and verifying compliance with the peace agreement; analyzing incidents of violence and threats; preparing and analyzing reports; assisting in monitoring institutional commitments; supporting economic reintegration projects; creating communication materials for peace education; participating in Municipal Peace Councils; serving as a liaison between UN counterparts and local actors; and performing additional functions as needed. The volunteer is also expected to engage in UNV activities, strengthen their understanding of volunteerism, and contribute to UNV publications.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the UN Volunteer position should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment, and a commitment to the principles of volunteerism. They should be adaptable, proactive, and capable of handling sensitive situations with discretion. Knowledge of the local context and the peace process in Colombia is highly desirable, as well as experience in community engagement and monitoring activities.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, international relations, peace studies, or a related field is required for this position. Advanced degrees may be an advantage, but are not mandatory. Candidates should demonstrate a strong understanding of the peace process and the socio-political context of Colombia.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have relevant experience in community engagement, monitoring, or evaluation, preferably in a conflict or post-conflict setting. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or governmental bodies in Colombia or similar contexts is highly valued. Candidates should have a proven track record of working collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and managing complex relationships.

Languages:
Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Colombia. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and communication with international counterparts. Knowledge of indigenous languages or other local dialects would be considered an asset.
