Job Overview:
The Medical Author-Coordinator for Clinical Guidelines is responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of the content quality of MSF's Clinical Guidelines. This role involves ensuring that the guidelines are scientifically sound, up-to-date, and relevant to the operational environment of MSF. The Medical Author-Coordinator will write and revise text and chapters for the Clinical Guidelines, contribute to other MSF international guidelines and tools, and work on continuously improving the methodologies used by the IGP author-coordinators. This position is crucial for maintaining the integrity and quality of medical guidelines that are utilized by healthcare professionals globally, ensuring that they reflect the latest scientific evidence and best practices in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Project Management - Planning: Generate an annual plan of updates in collaboration with the Editor of the Clinical Guidelines and the Pharmacist for Essential Drugs, coordinating with other IGP members and MSF Intersectional Medical platform leaders. Adjust planning based on new evidence or user feedback.
  • Writing: Conduct literature searches and reviews to support content with current scientific evidence. Write draft updates, maintain consistency, and integrate feedback from relevant experts. Prepare discussion documents for unresolved topics and finalize texts for submission to the editor.
  • Project Management - Coordination: Coordinate input from MSF and external experts, manage revision requests, and facilitate consensus on content. Ensure coherence across international guidelines and disseminate findings to the IGP team.
  • Project Management - Documentation: Collect and store requests for updates, track references, ensure permissions for illustrations, and archive documents related to the Clinical Guidelines.
  • Be a Proactive IGP Team Member: Participate in meetings, contribute to annual plans, and engage in budget forecasting and reporting.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a strong background in medical writing or a related field, with proven experience in developing clinical guidelines or similar documents. They should have excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and concise guidelines. Strong organizational and project management skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Familiarity with medical terminology and guidelines is highly desirable, as well as experience in conducting literature reviews and research.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a degree in medicine, public health, life sciences, or a related field. Advanced degrees (Master's or PhD) are preferred, particularly in areas related to medical writing, public health, or clinical research. Additional training or certifications in medical writing or guideline development would be advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in medical writing, clinical research, or guideline development is required. Experience working in humanitarian settings or with international organizations is a plus. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of producing high-quality written materials and managing complex projects effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with proficiency in French, Spanish, or Arabic considered an asset. The ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders in multiple languages will enhance the candidate's suitability for this role.

  • Compensation and benefits will be aligned with MSF's practices in the entity establishing the contract. The successful candidate will typically be offered a contract in the MSF office of their country of residence at the time of application, with the possibility of working from any MSF office within +/- 5 hours of the CET time zone.
