Job Overview: The Communication and Learning Advisor will play a crucial role in the USAID-funded Somalia Resilience Population Measurement (RPM) Activity. This five-year project aims to develop a resilience measurement system that assesses collective resilience outcomes at a population level. The advisor will be responsible for creating and executing a communication strategy that effectively disseminates project results to key stakeholders. This includes synthesizing complex data into clear narratives and presentations tailored for diverse audiences, including USAID, donors, media, and the general public. The advisor will also facilitate knowledge transfer and ensure that research findings are integrated into RPM's learning processes, thereby supporting the overall objectives of the Activity.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead the implementation of a comprehensive communication strategy that aligns with RPM's goals and objectives.
Create and maintain a communications content calendar to ensure consistent engagement across various channels.
Review and synthesize complex technical research findings into accessible communication materials.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to clarify technical information for a broader audience.
Translate technical jargon into plain language for non-technical stakeholders.
Develop educational materials, presentations, and training programs to facilitate knowledge transfer.
Create high-level communication products such as briefs, infographics, and executive summaries.
Ensure that all communication products are visually appealing and meet USAID branding requirements.
Build and nurture relationships with key stakeholders to keep them informed and engaged. 1
Monitor and evaluate the impact of communication strategies and adjust as necessary based on stakeholder feedback. 1
Collaborate with teams across partners to identify communication needs and tailor strategies accordingly.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should have a strong background in communication, with proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies. They should possess excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear and compelling narratives. Experience in knowledge translation and stakeholder engagement is essential. Familiarity with USAID branding and marking requirements is a plus. The candidate should also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master's degree is preferred, particularly in areas related to development, international relations, or public policy.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in communication roles, preferably within the international development sector. Experience working with USAID or similar donor organizations is highly desirable. The candidate should have a track record of successfully managing communication strategies and producing high-quality communication products.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Somali or other local languages is considered an asset, as it would enhance communication with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and based in Mogadishu, Somalia. The role may involve occasional travel within the country.
