Job Overview:
The consultancy position aims to provide technical input to the WHO Country Office in Egypt, focusing on developing and coordinating written outputs for media relations and communications activities related to the ongoing Gaza emergency. The consultant will play a vital role in raising awareness of WHO's work in Egypt, particularly in response to the Gaza crisis, which has led to a significant increase in health needs among displaced populations and host communities. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring that the visibility of WHO's efforts is communicated effectively to key partners, including the Government of Japan, donors, UN agencies, and the general public. This role is critical in supporting WHO's resource mobilization efforts and enhancing the organization's health leadership in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant will be expected to deliver the following outputs over an 8-month period:
  • Coordination for communication and information product development, which includes working with various partners to conceptualize and plan visibility materials and communication products such as audio, video, and print materials. The consultant will ensure that these materials are submitted for final approval and that they effectively showcase WHO's response to the Gaza emergency.
  • Execution of media and communications outreach activities, which involves securing media coverage and interviews for WHO, preparing talking points and key messages for the WCO Representative, drafting press releases, and creating human-interest stories and infographics. The consultant will also liaise with photographers, graphic designers, and media agencies to ensure comprehensive coverage of WHO's activities.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a university degree in journalism and communications as an essential qualification. Desirable qualifications include studies or experience-based knowledge of communications techniques and media relations, as well as previous experience with a UN agency. The consultant should possess excellent writing skills in both English and Arabic, with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Basic knowledge or skills in photography and graphic design are also desirable.

Educational Background:
Candidates must hold a university degree in journalism and communications. Additional studies or experience in communications techniques and media relations are considered advantageous, particularly if they relate to the work of international organizations such as the UN.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of experience in media and communications is essential for this position. Desirable experience includes planning and executing media and communications products, as well as developing written, audio, and visual materials. Familiarity with WHO's mandate and goals is also beneficial.

Languages:
The mandatory languages for this position are English and Arabic. Candidates must be able to read, write, and speak both languages fluently, with English proficiency at an expert level and Arabic as a mother tongue.

Additional Notes:
The consultancy is expected to last for 8 months, and the selected consultant will need to provide a medical certificate of fitness for work. The remuneration for this position is EGP 156,598 per month. This vacancy notice may also be used to identify candidates for other similar consultancies at the same level.
