Job Overview: The Intern for Adolescents and Youth will work under the direct supervision of the Regional Technical Advisor for Adolescents and Youth at the Arab States Regional Office. This role is crucial for supporting the regional team in advancing youth participation and engagement, particularly in the areas of Adolescents and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health, youth-responsive programming in humanitarian settings, and Youth, Peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (YPS) initiatives. The intern will engage in a comprehensive work plan that includes achievable milestones and learning opportunities, with regular progress meetings to enhance their skills in alignment with UNFPA’s mandate. The intern will report directly to the Regional Technical Advisor and will be involved in various initiatives aimed at empowering youth and promoting their rights.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a diverse range of tasks that contribute significantly to the regional initiatives of the Adolescents and Youth Team. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting Youth, Peace and Security initiatives, youth-responsive humanitarian action, and youth participation policies. This involves logistical coordination, managing Zoom links, and ensuring engagement with country teams. The intern will also provide translation services between Arabic and English for key documents and assist in documentation and reporting for various activities.
Knowledge Management and Documentation: The intern will update the UNFPA ASRO Youth microsite with resources, conduct desk reviews of available knowledge products, and support country-level youth mapping interventions. This includes tracking program updates and analyzing data to identify trends and gaps in youth programming.
Administrative and Coordination Support: The intern will provide ongoing administrative support to the Adolescents and Youth Unit, including document consolidation, meeting participation, and logistics coordination for regional events and webinars. This will involve drafting concept notes, coordinating logistics, and preparing presentations and reports.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must have a demonstrated interest in youth participation and engagement, with proficiency in both written and spoken English and Arabic. Additional fluency in French is considered a strong asset. The ability to adapt to new environments and maintain positive working relationships with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds is essential. Previous engagement with youth networks or youth-led organizations is a plus. The intern should possess strong analytical and writing skills, initiative, and sound judgment, along with the ability to work harmoniously with staff from different national and cultural backgrounds.
Educational Background: Candidates should have recently graduated with a university degree in social sciences, public health, development studies, anthropology, or public policy. Enrollment in a postgraduate degree program (such as a Master’s program or higher) is also required.
Experience: Some experience working with development agencies, including volunteer work, is preferred. The intern should have a strong understanding of UNFPA's mandate and policies, as well as experience in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and delivery mechanisms.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic is mandatory, while additional fluency in French is highly desirable. Knowledge of other languages can be an asset.
Additional Notes: This internship is unpaid, and interns are responsible for their living expenses, accommodation, and travel arrangements. However, a stipend may be provided to cover basic daily expenses if the intern is not financially supported by another institution. Medical insurance is required for the duration of the internship, and UNFPA does not provide this insurance.
