Job Overview: The position of Software Developer is crucial within the Information Technology and Communications unit of the WHO. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Business Solution & Innovation Lead and will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and implementing software solutions that meet the specific needs of the organization. This role requires a strong understanding of the .NET framework and Microsoft technology stack, as well as the ability to provide technical support for various applications. The Software Developer will play a key role in ensuring that all staff members have timely access to reliable information systems, which is essential for effective program management across WHO offices in the Southeast Asia region. The position also involves collaborating with team members to set specifications for new applications and developing technical documentation to accurately represent application design and code.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Software Developer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: designing and developing new software applications, maintaining existing software, providing technical support for web, mobile, and desktop applications, and transforming project specifications into functional applications. The incumbent will also be expected to write high-quality source code, ensure compliance with WHO IT standards, and generate reports on system development activities. Additionally, the Software Developer will assist in identifying and resolving issues within applications, collaborate with team members to enhance application performance, and serve as a backup for other team members when necessary. The role may also involve carrying out other duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a secondary school education supplemented by relevant courses in Information Technology. A degree in Computer Application or Microsoft certifications in application development is desirable. Essential qualifications include at least five years of experience in software design, development, testing, and implementation of Microsoft .NET applications. Familiarity with the entire software development lifecycle, hands-on experience in database design, and knowledge of various programming languages and frameworks are also required. Candidates should have strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities, as well as excellent communication skills.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a secondary school education with additional relevant courses in Information Technology. A degree in Computer Application or a closely related field is desirable, along with Microsoft certifications in application development. Candidates must have a solid understanding of modern office procedures and practices, as well as the ability to draft technical documentation and business cases.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in software design, development, testing, and implementation, specifically with Microsoft .NET applications. Candidates should have hands-on experience with various technologies, including APIs, SQL Server, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Angular with NodeJS, and C#. Experience in working with SaaS platforms and Microsoft Azure Cloud Services is also beneficial. Familiarity with testing and automated testing platforms, as well as knowledge of code versioning tools, is essential. Experience in a UN organization or similar international setting is considered an asset.
Languages: Expert knowledge of English is essential for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, although not mandatory.
Additional Notes: This position offers an attractive remuneration package, including an annual net base salary starting at INR 1,078,604, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance.
