Job Overview: The Deputy Chief of Party (DCoP) plays a crucial role in the Cash Consortium of Sudan (CCS), which aims to address the humanitarian needs of vulnerable populations affected by conflict in Sudan. This position involves close collaboration with partner organizations to ensure effective implementation of cash assistance programs in challenging contexts such as the Greater Darfur Region, Greater Kordofan Region, and Khartoum. The DCoP will support the CCS in developing a progressive vision for cash assistance, ensuring that programs are delivered on time, within budget, and meet high-quality standards. The role also includes advocating for data-informed decision-making and adaptive management, contributing to strategic planning, and representing the consortium to various stakeholders, including donors and UN agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy Chief of Party will be responsible for the following duties:
Provide operational leadership for the CCS implementation, engaging actively with partners to troubleshoot operational challenges.
Manage a multi-donor portfolio of $50 million USD focused on famine prevention and response.
Support the scale-up of program activities and ensure compliance with grant holder regulations.
Monitor expenditures and forecasts, ensuring timely identification of financial discrepancies.
Contribute to the strategic vision for CCS, fundraising efforts, and innovative actions.
Represent the consortium in external meetings with donors, UN agencies, and local authorities.
Ensure compliance with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security procedures and policies.
Commit 5% of time to organizational learning activities.
Support accountability efforts towards beneficiaries and engage communities in project design and evaluation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a BA/BS or equivalent in international studies, economics, or a related field; an MA/S is preferred. They should have 5-7 years of experience in international relief and development program management, particularly in emergency and recovery contexts. Previous experience in supporting consortia or managing partnerships is required, along with 3-5 years of experience in cash transfer programming in complex conflict settings. Strong communication skills, flexibility, and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams are essential.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in international studies, economics, or a related field is required, with a master's degree preferred. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of humanitarian response and development practices.
Experience: The position requires 5-7 years of relevant experience in international relief and development program management, particularly in emergency and recovery settings. Candidates should have experience in managing or facilitating partnerships and consortia, as well as direct and remote management experience in complex environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is required, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in Arabic and French is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, with up to 40% travel required to support programming in Sudan and neighboring countries, including Chad, South Sudan, Egypt, and Ethiopia. The role may involve travel to insecure locations with limited amenities. Housing is provided in individual accommodations, and staff will have access to good medical services.
