Job Overview:
The International UN Volunteer will be engaged in the Digital Strategy Section, where they will play a crucial role in supporting the digital transformation initiatives of UNEP. This position involves assisting in the maintenance and updating of various information-sharing and planning tools that are utilized across multiple platforms, including web, social media, and internal communications. The volunteer will also be responsible for researching best practices in digital strategy and transformation, planning knowledge-sharing events, and conducting training sessions. The role requires a proactive approach to collecting and organizing data related to digital communications activities, contributing to the drafting of digital strategies, and supporting the production of online events and digital campaigns. The volunteer will also engage in activities that promote the understanding of volunteerism and contribute to the UNV community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the International UN Volunteer include:
  • Assisting in the updating and maintenance of information-sharing and planning tools across various digital platforms.
  • Researching issues related to digital strategy and transformation best practices.
  • Planning and organizing knowledge-sharing events and conducting one-on-one training sessions.
  • Collecting and organizing data on digital communications activities.
  • Contributing to the drafting of digital strategies, content, and reports.
  • Supporting the production of online events and digital campaigns.
  • Participating in reflection activities to enhance understanding of volunteerism.
  • Writing articles and contributing to UNV publications.
  • Assisting with the UNV Buddy Programme for new volunteers. 1
  • Promoting the use of online volunteering within local communities.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong understanding of digital communication tools and strategies, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Candidates should possess excellent research and analytical skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to the principles of volunteerism and a willingness to engage with local communities.

Educational Background:
Candidates for this position should have a background in communications, digital media, marketing, or a related field. A degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, but equivalent experience may also be considered. Knowledge of environmental issues and sustainable development is an advantage.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have some experience in digital communications, social media management, or related fields. Previous volunteer experience, particularly in an international context, is highly desirable. Candidates should demonstrate a proactive approach to learning and a willingness to adapt to new challenges.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNEP. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly French or Spanish, is considered an asset and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
