Job Overview:
The Finance Assistant plays a crucial role in managing the day-to-day financial operations of the Mercy Corps Venezuela Office. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with donor regulations, and providing timely financial reporting to support program activities. The Finance Assistant will update financial information in the local accounting system, review disbursement documentation, and monitor financial operations in field offices. This role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively with various departments to ensure efficient use of financial resources. The Finance Assistant will also support the Senior Finance Officer in various financial tasks and contribute to the overall financial health of the organization in Venezuela.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Finance Assistant's duties include monitoring daily cash flow to ensure sufficient liquidity for payments, preparing cash counts as required, processing payments to suppliers, and ensuring accurate journal entries in the accounting system. The role involves reconciling employee accounts, preparing monthly and annual financial reports, and reviewing purchase requisitions and payment requests to ensure compliance with budget specifications and donor regulations. The Finance Assistant will also manage payroll processing, maintain documentation for payment transactions, and assist in asset acquisition and inventory reconciliation. Additionally, the position may involve providing induction training for new staff and supporting financial monitoring for partner organizations.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Finance Assistant position should have at least two years of accounting experience and a bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field. Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Office and Excel, are essential, along with knowledge of computerized accounting systems and double-entry bookkeeping. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills. Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, while proficiency in English is considered a plus. Candidates should demonstrate accuracy in processing cash transactions and possess a solid mathematical aptitude.
Educational Background:
